After "fighting" with vista for the last 5 years, a friend suggested I move up to windows 7. I know this has been out a few years now, but having learned from the past via win 3.1, win 75,78, XP then vista, I would not jump in until I was sure the next version was an improvement, not just a "window dressing" of vista. Having backed up all my old files onto DVD, I loaded a new hard drive and installed. Windows 7 loaded easily and quickly. It took some time to get used to some of the changes, but once mastered, it definately is a great improvement over vista.
Unfortunately as usual, some of my programs and equipment, printers etc.did not load without getting updates, common problem with every new windows. I still have several older programs, which originally ran on XP and vista, but will not work on win 7. I have a TV card installed which worked perfectly on vista, but although I downloaded an updated driver, it still will not work and had to be uninstalled as it caused a permanent error message on booting.The cause may be that I moved from a 32 bit windows to a 64 bit, but it also may be that win 7 doesn't like the program anyway.
Win 7 does not instal a mail box, I discovered that you have to contact microsoft to download one. Once loaded it does work differently than the earlier version, but you get used to it.
The one annoying program is a new version of Paint, which I used to use on a regular basis, but this is a new and different version, which I find far more difficult to use, definately a worse version than the vista version.If you make an error, I still can't find the "undo" button!!
Yes this is a better version overall and works better, once you get used to it.
