I emailed the seller regarding my ability to install (65 year old, female, non-tech person). What I received was a friendly email stating that it was easy to do, don't forget to update drivers etc., and good luck. I spent Easter weekend doing the install - with little or no difficulty, and replaced all my own programmes to be up and running fully in just a couple of days.
Have had no problems with Windows 7. Pleased that I did it myself.
My 9 year old 8400 was just about ready for silicone heaven, but this update should see me wright until windows 10.
I was running XP Professional 32 Bit with Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz with 3.3 GB of ram and 500 Gig Hard Drive.
Just go to the Microsoft website, look for XP upgrade options, forget Windows 8, download Windows 7 upgrade adviser, run it and see how bad the damage is going to be, then use the info on the adviser to find the drivers or system updates you need.
On the Microsoft website there is a very useful video on the upgrade, just follow the instructions about custom installation and using Windows Easy Transfer. Don't forget to print off the Upgrading from windows XP to Windows 7 document before you start.
All you do is run the Easy Transfer program, stick the disk in and follow the custom installation instructions.
Watch out for the product key it really is small and i don't need glasses!
When it has finished re- install your Docs and Pics using Easy Transfer and then come the dreaded Windows updates I had 147 which was a bit scary, so I took the dog out, mowed the lawn, washed the car and after 3 hours everything was fine.
All but 1 of my programs was compatible, my printers external hard drive anti-virus and unbelievably Office 2003 were all fine.
I would have had to buy a new laptop, which we couldn't afford and I really am not interested in learning new technology, like Windows 8 or 8.1
Windows 7 is enough for my needs at 74 years of age!!!
Regards Mrs Burton
Installed the new OS on my original Dell Inspiron without a hitch most of the drivers are compatible and the system seems stable after the upgrade and all my old software is working
A fairly painless experience!!
The use of the Microsoft Upgrade paperwork, available on the Internet, made the job very easy.

Sometimes heralded as the best platform since XP. Most definitely a march on Vista for my money, but not if you are still playing early WW2 games.Published 4 months ago by Geoff77
