The next step in the evolution of business computing has gone to the cloud. With the significant cost savings and performance boost that it offers, more companies are turning to private clouds and need IT professionals who understand the infrastructure. This how–to guide walks you through the technology and shows you how to build a secure, internal cloud using Microsoft Windows Server® Hyper–V® and Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager (VMM). Learn how to implement and manage a virtualization environment and prepare for the future of Windows Server computing.

  • Explore the new capabilities of VMM for System Center 2012
  • Set up, configure, and deploy VMM to meet your business needs
  • Create, add, modify, configure, or remove the different Fabric components
  • Add library servers and library shares to your environment, then scan for compliance
  • Manage private clouds through their life cycle while provisioning access to both the VMM and Library resources

Whether you are new to System Center Virtual Machine Manager or have used previous versions and are looking to move to 2012, this is a great book. The explanations are clear and the step by step guides through the functionality provide plenty of opportunity to practice the skills.

There is a short section towards the end where VMM 2012 is linked into the other System Center products but it wouldn't be enough to get you started with Service Manager or Operations Manager but that really isn't the point of the book. The Microsoft Private Cloud offering is built on VMM 2012 and this book hits the mark perfectly on that.

HASH(0x995138f4) out of 5 stars Great insight and step-by-step guidance on Microsoft's private cloud design and existing solutions 24 Sept. 2012
By Marc Chisinevski - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Based on the authors' real-world experience, this book provides great insight and step-by-step guidance on Microsoft's private cloud design and existing solutions.

The authors explain the reasoning behind Microsoft's strategy, making this book a great read for anybody interested in understanding the current and future business opportunities.

For me, their work was a mind opener as they carefully assembled all the pieces of the puzzle, including monitoring and orchestration, into a coherent and pragmatic approach.

HASH(0x992efc00) out of 5 stars Great book on VMM 2012! 21 Sept. 2012
By Travis J. Marshall - Published on Amazon.com

I took a chance on this book to help me study for the new MCSE Private Cloud certification that Microsoft is now offering and I'm glad I did. It really had a lot to offer on VMM 2012. I wrote more about the cert and this book on my blog: [...]
HASH(0x99513d68) out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of SCMVMM - great for new MCSA and MCSE series exams 28 July 2013
By B. P. ODwyer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I originally decided on this book to keep my knowledge set up to date. It is a fantastic book on VMM 2012 and how you can leverage it for creating your private cloud. Detailed and thorough coverage for anyone needing to get one going but also a reference for those supporting one. Even better though is that this book can be a great resource for the new Microsoft series of MCSA and MCSE exams for Server 2012 and Private Cloud. Not all self study books are out and even they do not cover the material in depth enough for taking the exams.

Get this book for the how to's of a Private Cloud and read it cover to cover, well written and easy read. If you are having a hard time finding books for the new exam series then get this book it fill the gaps.
HASH(0x9a122c9c) out of 5 stars best cloud book in the market weather you Windows guy or not 16 Dec. 2012
By rahib - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
First time learning about cloud computing and this book really helped me understand what cloud computing is. You hear from many IT prof and executives the word cloud computing but no one actually understand what is cloud computing and what is involved in cloud computing. The content is easy to understand and I think its very systematic from the intro about cloud computing to more detailed aspects of this technology. Weather you are a beginner or advanced in this technology this book will not disappoint you.
