2007 Microsoft® Office System Step by Step (Step by Step (Microsoft))

Though very bulky, this book is a mine of information with a comprehensive index. Excellent value for what I paid for it!

If you are considering buying a comprehensive book about Office 2007 this is worth buying. Please beware though that this book is exactly the same as Special Edition Using Microsoft Office 2007 by the same authors.

Although the two books have different titles, covers and ISBNs the content is identical.
I bought both expecting this one (In Depth) to do what it says on the tin and go into much more detail than the Special Edition title.

I bought this book because I was upgrading from Office 2002 on XP to Office 2007 64 bit on Windows 7. There are some horrific reviews for experienced users of the older Office moving to the new string based one, so I thought this book might help. Well no, it did not.

This is a massive tome of 1020 pages. Like most US books, authors seem to be paid by bulk instead of usefulness and brevity. If you are familiar with Office then most of this book is irrelevant. If you are new to Office this is sure to put you off, there are better places to start. There is an index but the book is so big that finding any useful stuff in it is usually a waste of time.

The book is a very detailed description of each module of Office, how it works and a few basic tips; this is a Microsoft mouth piece. There is nothing about problem solving (yes there is, very simple advice) and there is no useful comparison to earlier versions of Office or what has been lost. There is nothing about what does not work in Office 2007.

A very good book that covers, as it says, Office 2007 in depth. The writing on the pictures of the screen shots are a little bit small, but, readable with reading glasses if you have difficulty reading small print. There is a 'Contents at a Glance' page as each package is covered by its own chapter. The main contents then lists all the sub-sections that are within each main chapter for each application, eg Excel, Word etc. A very well set-out and useful book, especially for somebody who isn't too familiar with the software. Worth every penny of what I paid. Would recommend it any day.

Brilliant book. If you need to learn how to do something in the Office suite and can't think of the word to type in the on-line help, this book has the examples and the pit-falls. My copy sits on the table by my computer.
