Microsol is used in conjunction with Microscale Micro Set decal solution to enhance the adhesion of the water-slide decals that come with most plastic model kits. The Microset is used when applying the decal to supplement the adhesive that comes with the decal itself. Once the decal is dry, paint on some Micro Sol (it has the consistency of water) and then leave it the heck alone. It dissolves the decal into the paint so while this is happening the decal is VERY fragile and faffing about with it will break it up and ruin the model. Once it's dry, the transformation is (usually) amazing - the decal no longer looks like a decal - it looks like it's been painted onto the model.

Beware that some decals need several applications of this stuff to achieve the effect and, very rarely, no amount of Microsol can achieve the look.

You should then seal the whole lot in with a layer of varnish (Humbrol Satincote, for instance)

Since I bought this solution applying decals to model aircraft is easier and it provides a "painted-on" appearance.

I have used less than 1/10th of the bottle with 3 aircraft.

Good value for money.

I've had difficulty for years in applying waterslide transfers to curved or models with rivets. This little bottle is a miracle. But be warned, it does very quickly convert the transfer into a strange looking, flexible facsimile of it's original self. Don't try to move it much or it may be damaged. Give it time to dry and the transfer returns to it's original form but without the wrinkles. FANTASTIC

Had a project in mind.
thought this was the solution - no pun intended.
It turned out that there are lots of solutions and the instructions with thsi were limited. I really should have learned more before I started. This didn'e seem to do what I had in mind. Not sure if that was because it wasnt meant to fix the decal like I wanted or I wasn't skilfull enough.
I gave it up as too complicated and the results were dissapointing.
As far as I can see IF you want to make your own decals for models etc the ink jet water slide of decal paper is ok and works but Im not sure if this is needed. I was trying to embellish a mug. but a bigger decal was VERY dificult to slide off and put on the mug. And it wasnt clear if this had to go on before or after or both.
My experience wasn't that positive.
ACID TEST: would I buy it again - no

I can say nothing but positives for this product. Using Games Workshop decals is very tough as they are thick decals and trying to get them to stay on or look good is tough. I used Micro Set and Micro Sol first to shape the decals and then tried Vallejo Satin Varnish after hearing many recommendations. My decals literally look painted on! they are fantastic and won't peel off. This also makes 2 layered combi-decalling possible. If you are frustrated with decals not going on right, try this product.

The best buy I've had since taking up modelling along with the Micro-Sol's.

Micro Set is used to help "SET" the decals onto the surface of the model kit. It provides a slippery air-bubble-free surface. The decal can be re-positioned to get it into place, and helps it conform over uneven surfaces.

Micro Sol is used to "SOLVENT" the decals, i.e., it melts the decal into the paintwork. Once you apply Micro Sol, you have about 3 seconds before it takes effect. The decal cannot be moved so make sure it's in place first.

Use Micro Set first, get the decal in place, then use Micro Sol.
