A very well written and organized book, with lots of practical examples and step by step logical analysis. If you cant grasp the theory or methodology of economics from this - time for another subject.

The other review describes it as maths light (which is true) but that can easily be added on. In fact the book is very clear in the Intro that it is purposefully maths light. NB there is another version of Perloff that uses calculus throughout and that is probably the text that should be studied for an economics major in Y1.

A easy read and certainly not heavy. Look also at Hirschleifer - Price theory and Applications - a perennial classic, but very much along the same lines as this book and presume still loads available second hand!

I'm currently reading Economics at a leading university in the UK and this is our core text for the first year. It is a bit mathematically-light, but for a first course in microeconomics, it's ideal. The book is well-written, very clear, very succinct, and it uses real-life examples which makes the theory more applicable and easier to understand.

I've looked and tried to use other textbooks to supplement this one, but really none come close. All the content is there, it's extremely thorough, and the mathematical derivations are in the back of the book for those who want to know. Also the book is quite modern in outlook and use of game theory, which is quite extensive for an introductory book.

For my second year I'll need something more advanced, and most definitely more mathematical, but for an introductory microeconomics textbook, I can't find anything better. You certainly won't regret buying/using Perloff.

The book arrived within two days from when I ordered it which was really good. However, the seller claimed that the book would be in good quality but actually it looks very used and is even taped around the cover to not fall apart. Not that it matters so much but in my opinion it should have been listed as "acceptable".
