When paired with a 1.8 inch micro-sata SSD, such as the Intel X18M, this adapter fits entirely within the space occupied by a 2.5 inch IDE drive. In this way you can upgrade your old IDE laptop with a SATA SSD. The only problem you'll have is securing the adapter-plus-SSD in the laptop's drive bay, but this can be solved any way you want with tape, hot glue or even plasticine.

I did the upgrade on my IBM Thinkpad T42p, and the result was a staggering improvement in speed and responsiveness. Upgrade today!

There is an issue with the motherboard as the solder connections for the crystal get shorted out by the metal case of the 1.8inch SSD drive I am inserted in to it. I have used some insulation tape to stop this happening but it's not ideal. The crystal needs repositioning behind the back edge of the sata connector.
