I went on a battlefield tour of the D-Day landing beaches and the Normandy campaign, and found this fantastically useful. Having things like the flooded areas marked on the map helped put it all into context on the ground.

Brilliant, this map shows all the salient points of the DDay operations. Beaches, strong points, gun positions, troop positions, areas of flooding.
It is a reprint of the 1944 original.
Particularly useful to provide an overview if visiting the Normandy beaches to see the lay of the land and roads then.
I will add that I am an amateur historian. It m may well be that more knowledgeable persons will find fault or errors.

Useful map of the ww2 Normandy area with troop advances indicated on the map. To be honest you would do just as well buying the modern Michelin map of the area. I hardly looked at this on my trip but could be useful if your not fully aware of the historical timeline/areas of the invasion

Like many, I find Dday and onwards fascinating. However so much is going on that the overall progress of the advance - or lack of it at times, is difficult to take in.
This excellent map shows the advance of the main units of all the allied armies, with the relevant dates shown. One can easily see who the adjacent units were and where hold ups occured.
My only major criticisms are
the small scale - ok I accept this is difficult to do on a standard map size,
the dominating weak single colour used to show movements.
That said this is the best single map I have seen of the Normandy campaign and is recommended for use of anyone interested, students of all levels and abilities, re enactors etc. should find information of interest.

I purchased this map prior to a visit to Normandy two weeks ago. The map is good for comparing the present day road system with the roads in 1944, and this helped us find our way around to see some of the many Battlefield sites, some of which are less known than the main sites.
The quality is satisfactory, though care needs to be taken to avoid accidental tearing. The identification of the D-day beaches and the routes taken following the invasion are quite clear, and easy to follow. It gave us a different perspective on the beach areas to just the present day touring maps.
Delivery was relatively slow, though it did arrive in time for our trip.

By Mister G HALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWER on 22 Jan. 2016

This is not a tourist map - it is a map printed two years after the war ended, subsequently reprinted (you are not buying an antique), and it shows for example how far the Allies had reached at various stages immediately after the invasion e.g. D-Day, D-Day +1 etc.

It is fascinating as it explains so much. I was struck by how graphically it demonstrates how precarious the Allies’ beachhead was by the end of 6th June – I had heard about it but I could see it for myself on this map, and it is worrying to look at. The Allies had taken very little ground and far shorto of their objectives. We really risked being thrown back into the sea.

A very good and interesting map.

A recommended buy for any visitor to, or student of, the Normandy battles. This map shows you the differences between the 1940's road network and the modern equivalents. As an example: Villers-Bocage is quite different - it is now a much larger village, dominated by the E401 motorway which bypasses it to the South. This map shows us that it was smaller then and a key chokepoint for five converging roads. Most modern military history books have poor maps. This will help you make sense of your reading. The paper is flimsier than the modern Michelin map: you will need to take a bit of care and you can't expect it to last as long.

This map gives the routes the various allied forces took on D-Day. Goes well with historic accounts of how the battles were fought. Could have been better if some of the areas of fighting had been enlarged, but still works OK to help understanding the routes taken by the allies and where the Germans were situated.
