Amazon Review

Children everywhere love the humorous writings of Michael Rosen. The Book of Nonsense is another excellent example of his work. It contains lots of incredibly funny rhymes and limericks, poems and wordplay that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, all offering lots of opportunities for smiles, giggles and laughing out loud. Particularly appealing is the one entitled "The Long and Amazing Story of What Happened When We Went to the Game Last Week" … "I was bored / they scored / we roared." The whole text is embellished with Claire Mackie’s excellent illustrations, which add extra humour and enjoyment. (Reluctant readers particularly could benefit, as the humour will attract them where other, drier, books fail.) Short listed for the Kate Greenaway award, this is suitable for children aged 7 years and older. --Susan Naylor

Review

An enjoyable book which might stimulate children's own inclinations to mess about with language. (Books for Keeps)

The author has a child's ear for word sound and an eye for nutty humour. Clare Mackie's crackling illustrations add verve and vigour to each page. (Junior Education) --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

This book is lots of fun. I bought it for my daughter who is 3 and we are enjoying reading it together. This book has introduced her to the concept of nonsense which greatly amuses her and has encouraged her to begin making up silly stories.
I think 3 is on the young side for this book but ok with lots of help from an adult. I can imagine children finding it laugh out loud funny as they get older. I'm guessing but I imagine my daughter still to be reading this age 9 or 10.
I think anything by Michael Rosen is a good buy.

My kids (3 and 5) love this book and have done seen they were first read the poems when they were 1 and 3. They laugh out loud at some of the poems and both join in. It's fun for adults too and enjoyable to read aloud - my 5-year-old can now read some of the poems herself and we sometimes chant 'Footle Flop Doodle' or 'Sticket' on the way to school.
The 1-star review is unfair as it refers to the seller, who was late to deliver, and not to the book itself, which is wonderfully silly - simply fantastic.

My niece is a bit young to fully understand this book (she is not yet 2) but I think she will grow to appreciate all the rhymes and nonsense (in a good way!) that this book has within it. Also the drawings are great and add to the fun to be had when reading and rereading this lovely book.

For young and old alike and thoroughly recommended.
