MICHAEL PHELPS was fortunate to have been a good friend to DAVID JANSSEN over the last fifteen years of his life. While he was engaged as Chief Investigator for a prominent Miami (Florida-USA) Law firm specializing in criminal defense, he had a chance encounter with ELLIE JANSSEN, David's first wife. Ellie had relocated to Miami from Las Vegas and was being given a tour of the exclusive, world-renowned Jockey Club in September of 1988. Mr. Phelps and Ellie Janssen had not seen each other in over 20 years.
During many lunches and dinners at the club, Mr. Phelps queried Ellie as to why she had not written a book about her life with David. Ellie said she had no idea how to do it, although she wanted very much to share her story with the legions of David's loyal fans. Mr. Phelps convinced her that together, they could write an intimate portrait of her life with David Janssen. Thus, "DAVID JANSSEN - MY FUGITIVE" was born. First published by Lifetime Books, Inc. in December 1994 Hardcover; with Paperback Editions following in 1995, 1996 and 1997. The book sold in excess of 1.2 Million copies worldwide.
Upon retiring from the Law firm Mr. Phelps embarked on the challenging career of professional WRITER. His debut novel "THE EXECUTION OF JUSTICE" is based on the true story of the murder of his close friend and one-time mentor, Detective Sergeant Jack Ohrberg of the Robbery & Homicide Division of the Indianapolis Police Department. In this novel, Mr. Phelps created the "MIKE WALSH DETECTIVE NOVELS" series. In "THE EXECUTION OF JUSTICE", Mr. Phelps has provided an in-depth look into the professional and private lives of the dedicated men and women who make tremendous sacrifices to serve and protect their communities. His second novel in the series, "THE JOCKEY'S JUSTICE" is based on an actual murder case he worked as Chief Investigator for the law firm. It takes his readers on a roller-coaster ride into the sleazy under-belly of the 'Sport of Kings'. It is now available on Amazon KINDLE Edition.
The publicity surrounding publication of "THE EXECUTION OF JUSTICE" revived interest in "DAVID JANSSEN-MY FUGITIVE". As a result Mr. Phelps arranged the release of the Updated - FOURTH EDITION of the book in Hardcover and at the original 1994 publication price.
Mr. Phelps has been inspired by many of David's personal friends and many, many of his fans from around the world to write a new book about David Janssen.
