There are 4 large round gold plated metal studs to protect the bottom of the purse (about the diameter of a dime). This provides stability if you set it on a flat surface. The bottom studs are a nice touch that I've also found go a long way toward extending the life of a purse.
My bag arrived without any paper wrap on the straps and gold plated MK emblem as my last MK purse arrived from amazon last month, and as how another reviewer mentioned hers arrived, and also how most new designer bags are shipped when they come from the factory. I inspected it carefully and I suspect it MIGHT be a return since, in addition to missing the protective paper, there were a few scuffs on the bottom studs, and a plastic tie was attached that was missing a tag. But it arrived in a sealed plastic bag with a dust cover inside the purse and it appears to be in new condition otherwise. (Although Amazon shipped it, I purchased it from 'Savings on Tech' and it's always possible they sent Amazon a re-packaged return.)
The inside is beautiful. I have several designer bags and this one has the best inside compartments/pockets, hands down! It has an attached inside leather strap with a clip for holding keys and all of the inside compartments are elegantly trimmed in the same leather as the straps and outer trim.
Inside you will find five compartments in all including one 9"W x 6"D zipper compartment, and another on the opposite side with a snap that closes over two layered compartments - one is 11"W x 9"D, and the other is layered in front of the last one and measures 11"W x 8"D. I like the zipper and snap which will will help keep contents from spilling out if the bag takes an unexpected tumble.
It also has two smaller pockets inside that do not zipper or snap shut - both provide easy access to things like reading glasses and pens. One of them is perfect for holding a small bottle of liquid hand sanitizer or a bottle of hand lotion - but it is narrow enough to keep a bottle upright to prevent accidental spillage, with a perfect 5" depth for easy access.
Outside you will find a sixth pocket that blends seamlessly with the purse and almost goes unnoticed. It is 5"W x 6"D and perfect for holding a Galaxy S4 in an upright position with no worries of falling out.
So why 4 stars and not 5?
First - while I love the addition of the shoulder strap which allows you to wear this across your chest, taking some weight off your shoulders, the strap is as thin as the regular hand straps so it might dig into the shoulder a bit, depending on the weight inside. The addition of a wider shoulder pad insert at the top of the strap would have been nice. Speaking of weight, I suppose this bag is somewhat lightweight for its enormous size, weighing in at 2 lbs, 3 oz, but considering whatever you might add inside, it could get heavy pretty fast.
Next - the dimensions provided in the product description are misleading (RE: "Width 14", Height 13", Depth 5.5", Strap Drop 7" / 19" Shoulder"). These dimensions would normally constitute a medium, to a medium/large bag at best, but this is definitely a large handbag. Here are the real dimensions:
Width across base: seam measures 14" (but with overhang it is closer to 15")
Width across top: 16"
Width across middle: 17" flat (with a normal amount of inside items it measures 16")
Depth across base: 5.5"
Depth across middle: 3.5"
Depth across the top: 1"
Strap measurements are accurate
I would list this purse as 17"W x 14"H - an increase worth noting over the advertised 14"W x13"H. It easily holds my 15" laptop, zipped closed! (This is in addition to adding all the items from my current purse.)
In the end I don't think this bag is the right fit for me so I'm sending it back -- I'm kind of small at 5'2" and this bag looks pretty huge on me - especially when I wear it with the long shoulder strap across my chest. And the shoulder strap is way too long to use it with the bag hanging down at my side - even with the strap positioned at its shortest length it still hits just a few inches above my knee, making me look like a school girl carrying a large book-bag, lol! (A few extra holes in the strap would have solved this.) It looks a little better when I wear it with the hand straps slung over my shoulder and the bag tucked under my arm. There is just enough space between the top of the purse and the top of the hand straps to accomplish this, but it could definitely use a couple more inches here to keep the purse from looking a bit silly by being forced so closely up against my armpit. BTW, carrying the bag in this way will not work if you are wearing any kind of knit sweater or dress... the buckles on the base of the hand straps (for design purposes only) can hook the knit and pull it out if you remove the purse quickly.
Just a note, if you are short (probably anything under 5' 4") don't expect to hold this bag down at your side using the hand straps without the shoulder strap swiping the floor, again, even with the shoulder strap positioned at its shortest length. This can be remedied of course by holding the shoulder strap together with the hand straps in your hand, but I would have to get used to this since it's a little bulky. You can easily remove the shoulder strap by it's clips, but then you lose the nice option of slinging it across your chest while, say, shopping or tending a child, or other instances when you could use two free hands.
In summary, this bag would look lovely on a tall woman - and she could carry it at her side without the shoulder strap dragging. the use of a model would help lend some perspective in sizing. I know this helps quite a bit when I'm watching QVC. The Macy's site uses the silhouette of a 5' 9" women modeling all of their purses. Amazon sellers might reduce some of their returns if they uploaded a silhouette or model with each purse.
Speaking of returns, my experience has shown that if I have to return any Amazon item because it was not as expected due to a poor description, then selecting "item not as described" and explaining the differences in the comments section seems to avoid any restocking or return fees. Amazon requires all sellers to provide adequate descriptions, which I rarely find. I had a problem once where a seller disputed my return and tried to charge me a 55% restocking fee (seriously!) so I filed an Amazon A-Z Guarantee. I eventually got my full refund (including return shipping) and I left a scathing seller review. For this reason I try to only purchase items from a seller who ships through Amazon - from whom I have never experienced a return problem. I look for the sellers who offer 'Amazon Prime' rather than ship directly from their own locations. These days it takes a heck of a deal to get me to buy from a seller who ships directly from their location, rather than from an Amazon warehouse, lol!
If you have any other questions just let me know in the comments. This is an expensive bag so I hope the review has helped a bit with your decision; if so please consider clicking the helpful button. Thanks! :-)
When I got the purse it was $220 so the price was really good than anothers stores.
