Unfortunatly there was some sort of interferance/crosstalk between these sockets and I couldn't listen to my iPod it was that bad!
It's now in the wifes car as she only charges her phone in there.
I've now got another (different) USB/Lighter socket in my car and it works perfetly, though the wire is a little short. So I'm on the lookout for a new one.
Since writing this review, I have bought myself a new car (Fabia Greenline II) which has a USB media player installed!, so the Odd Buzzing would now not effect me!. I have bought another one of these, as since giving the original one to the wife, which she has had no problems from what so ever, I have found my current adapter gets overloaded easily (Sat-Nav and 1A Phone) and when the Car does it's 'Stop/Start' trick the power to the Sat-Nav/Phone cuts out!.
So I've bought another one of these as it's rated higher (with a 6A lighter socket) to see if this will solve my problem!, Plus I don't want to nick the other one back from my wife, as she's happy with it!!
This device charges at 1A as opposed to the standard 500mA of most USB devices. This is fine (and even a benefit) for many devices as it will result in faster charging. However, as I discovered the hard way, for electrical items that are only tolerant of the standard USB current, this device will cause them to fry! I now owe my daughter a new SanDisk MP3 player.
If you are going to use a non-standard specification, I think this should be made explicitly clear on the item description.
So far we've got the Sat Nav, 2 mobiles phones and the DVD player for the kids. Obviously with only one power point in the car we were in trouble.
Step in this handy little device. Just plug it into your cigar lighter and you now have 2 regular in-car power point and 2 USB ports. Perfect!
The dvd player and sat nav can plug into the normal cigar lighter style sockets and the mobiles will charge happily on the USB connectors, all at the same time.
It puts out a max of 2A so it'll probably even be able to charge and iPad if you wanted it to, or any other power hungry device you need to charge on the move.
For me the cable is a bit too long at over 2 metres, but rolled up and tucked away it's not too big an issue.
Overall, if you need more power sockets for your car you can't go wrong with this.
Have been using this for a five years now and leant it to people too, everyone loved it. Yes there are new ones which look flash but this does a great job and has all the functionality you need.
USB ports work very well, cable is very long (great if you want to hide it away, or use it from the boot to the back), it doesn't stick out too much, and the design is useful for any chargers which are badly build so fall apart at the end. If any cigarette charger does fall apart just shake the bits out, no tweezers needed.
Really couldn't be without it in my cars and it's now ended up in three different ones.
Devices I've charged from it are -
HP Touchpad, HTC X1+, iPhone4, 3G, headphones
I paid a few pounds for this device and although I'm not sure what's on the market nowadays if you paid a tenner for something that lasted 5 years you probably wouldn't complain.
