How evocative is this? This is 1968 reborn, students at the barricades, black and white pictures on the tv and wearing your black polo neck to school ("Miss, I'm cold"). Georges Moustaki's gravel voice and the ballads that 35 years on you are still word perfect in. The digital remastering is a slight disappointment; somehow the crackles and pops of the record add to the smoky, romantic Parisian wannabe atmos. But buy it to relive your youth .... and hear some great songs again. It's been unavailable too long.

The CD is lovely and to hear his voice when he was young! He is so peaceful and harmonious and poetic. But it was disappointing only with 12 songs! I am sure some more could have been added! If I remember correctly my LP I once had did contain more songs!

This is a classic album from a singer whose french is so well articulated that it is possible for an anglophone to make out all the words and marvel at the beautiful pronunciation and phraseology. A wonderfully atmospheric singer. Listening to the album Gauloise in hand and cognac to lips is to savour one of France's great artists. For true music lovers _ a treat.

It`s not often mentioned, but back in the day none other than Leonard Cohen said that one of his early influences was Moustaki. One can see why. This is THE Moustaki record - a collection of acoustic songs (with a couple of eloquent instrumentals) of quiet, lucid beauty. It`s a brief affair, but - like some brief affairs - timelessly memorable.
