Being one of the most obsessive Metallica fans on the planet, I as usual bought this book just to own it - I wasn't bothered what was in it! I didn't expect this book to conain anything I hadn't seen before, but I was pleasantly surprised. There are many unreleased, true 'never-before-seen' photos in here, and the book gives an insightful pictorial biography of the band through Halfin's lens. Ross Halfin is one of the premier music photographers and is most well-known for his long-standing work with Metallica. Encompassing many styles of photography, this is a very nice book to look through even if you have no interest in Metallica at all.

First off: gorgeous book. Silver cover, black type embossed into it, very sleek and expensive looking! ...Ross Halfin and Metallica are synonymous with fantastic photographs. This guy has taken photos of Metallica for nearly 20 years and the best of em (up to '96) are in this book. There are some hilarious photos in here: and an even more hilarious foreword by Lars Ulrich, Metallica's drummer. Mostly black and white photos but a nice chunk of colour in the middle: but very very smart and fantastic quality printing. From all corners of the globe, a 15-year pictorial history of Metallica live and off-stage, in the studio and messing about. There are HUNDREDS of photos in here, full-page, double-page and small shots. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!!

A collection of images of metallica, from the early 1980s to the release of load in 1996. even if you are not a fan of the music, this book contains some of the most revealing images of the band, shown at their most relaxed, you get to see a new side to the band. Halfin really knows how to take pictures and here is a fine collection!

i tripped when i got to page 107 in this book....this is the picture of the banner i drew for the monsters of rock show and i will never forget that day...my best friend dave said after metallica played their set that we should walk out of the show so we could meet them...so we walked out after they finished and walked behind the back side of mile hi stadium and held up the banner and for some unknown reason metallica were hangin out back there..they autographed the banner and took some pictures.i still cant believe it happened to us!god bless the 80's!
