I have never been satisfied with any of the books or chapters of books I've read on the 109; there remained many questions based on the information provided. I looked at the Haynes manual, but that had nothing new.

This gave me all my answers, and provides some fascinating rejoinders to other words written about the 109.

If WW2 aircraft interest you, then you need this book, unless-and it's quite possible- there's a better one I've missed on the subject.

Excellent text, and superb illustrations.

Very, very good indeed. One of the best aircraft mongraphs I have.

HASH(0x8c9350f8) out of 5 stars Excellent in-depth analysis of the Bf 109 26 Mar. 2015
By C. W. Carter - Published on Amazon.com

I found this incredible book to be a most valuable resource on the Messerschmitt Bf 109. The text, written by Marco Fernandez-Sommerau, focuses primarily on the technical aspects of the Bf 109, although there is a chapter devoted to recollections of flying the plane by several German veterans. What makes this book unique is that the text is based on original records and documentation from government and manufacturers' archives. The diagrams and illustrations are straight from the Messerschmitt, Rheinmetall, etc. manuals. Every variant of the Bf 109 - from the A to the final production model K, is profiled. This includes photos and illustrations of all the engine types, from the Junkers Jumo 210 to the Daimler - Benz 601 through 605 models. The level of detail regarding every aspect of the Bf 109 is tremendous. Cockpit interiors, gunsights, on board cameras, electrical schematic diagrams, you name it, it's here. Even the serial numbers of the propeller types are identified. The photographs for the book were provided from the archives of Jean-Pierre Van Mol and Eric Mombeek. Almost all of these photographs have been published for the first time and support the technical facts from the text. The authors did a tremendous service to aviation history by creating this book.

THE holy grail of Bf 109's, from the first prototype to the final K-4's. Extremely informative as well with the various sub types, R4, U2, etc. explaining these in great detail. High recommended for any modeler or enthusiast of the Bf 109.

HASH(0x8c935308) out of 5 stars Really excellent 11 Oct. 2010

If you want to know what every single bump, access panel and cockpit switch on 109's was for, what versions they were present on, and how well they worked, this is the book for you. I was a bit put off by the first section which seemed to me to be a pretty weak overview of the various 109 versions, but the subsequent sections break the plane down into logical functional areas which are analyzed in exceeding detail, at the end of which you'll know the 109 about as well as the mechanics who worked on them did. Contains a great set of comparative photos of 109 cockpits all the way from B to K models also. All in all a very good purchase if you're interested in the subject.

HASH(0x8c9355fc) out of 5 stars Not what you'd expect 7 Nov. 2011
By Peter D - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a fairly informative book, but suffers from a very misleading title. How can you have a "recognition manual" without any comparative drawings of the variants of the subject? That would be the most fundamental thing one would expect.
