This book picks up from where the first left off. No spoilers but does get better than the first, by the time I got to last 40% could not put the book down & just continued reading today, which is saying something. Sure it may not be up to the levels of some of the masters of the fantasy genre. But is still a great read at great price. Looking forward to part3.

The world is being consumed and corrupted by the evil Duke Ewzad Vriill – a deliciously revolting villain with creepy fingers that writhe bonelessly as he applies his dark magic. Meanwhile Justan, our bold and fearless young hero, struggles to understand his role in the world while he masters his considerable talents. A supporting cast of unlikely characters and a good story make the pages whizz by.

I thought it started a little shakily with the author not quite knowing how best to weave the strands of the first book (Eye of the Moonrat) smoothly into this sequel … but once he got into his stride, the story simply galloped along.

The need to know “what happened next” made rush straight into this from the Eye of the Moonrat (which should be read first!) … and now I am afraid I will have to dash off and get number 3 in the series – The Hunt of the Bandham. Trevor Cooley really knows how to leave his readers on a cliffhanger …

Have read all 7 of these books and am looking forward to Book 8. The story is excellent and with a lot of thought on how to progress each of the characters. They grow with the story, and an exciting story it is.
To start off with you want to smack Justan but slowly he grows up before your eyes and we begin to see the making of a strong, likable character. Fist, Deathclaw and Gwyrtha all bring a different perspective to the story and add more depth to the characters. They all play a central part to the story which I like rather than just being extras added for the sake of it.
This story is a continuing saga and I like all the twists and turns that it offers and also the fact that there is a war going on and some of the characters that you like die as well and those who live suffer greatly.
As I said before like this story and looking forward to the next installment.

Well the second book pulls you deeper into the story. The characters develop more deeply, and his story telling art just gets better. The last half of the book is so exciting that it is difficult to put down. Evwad Vrill comes into his element as the evil master, and he is a very nasty individual, who wreaks all kinds of suffering on his victims and creations. Justan is imprisoned, where he meets and bonds with Fist the ogre. The bonding allows Justan to see and understand what Fist has been through, and inspires him to take revenge on Vrill. You really cannot turn the pages quick enough in the last few chapters, and I cannot wait to read the next book, which I have already downloaded.

Another good book by this author. The only down side so far is some of the spelling; waived instead of waved and idear. If not for these this series would be five stars all the way.

just like Mr Cooley himself, I am a huge fan of Robert Jordon. these are nothing like The Wheel of Time books and that is no way an insult. These books are in a class of their own. Though I am only two books into this series I am blown away by not just the world he has created but how he has managed to upend the usual stereotypes any fantasy enthusiast has about the usual depictions of Dwarfs, Elves and especially Ogres. great battles throughout, great story lines, but above all else, a great blend of humour, chivalry, humanity and humility. (cliche alert) A must read!

I can`t remember why I tried these books (maybe they were cheap?) but I am so glad that I did. I am really enjoying the stories and characters and as I finish one book, have to buy the next immediately. Now trying not to read too quickly as I know I will be sorry when I come to the end. I have overcome my initial deep irritation with Justan and his sulks and now only the rather silly language from Lenny is left to grate-so still at 4 stars but a great read.

These books are a saga for all ages and at my tender age of 51, I'm sure that I would have enjoyed them just as much were I 11 or 21.
The moonrats themselves are a fascinating concept and the mysterious mother an intriguing character also.
I can't wait to buy the next book.
