I don't like the 'flash' high end trainers, the branding on these is subtle with the build quality and clean uncluttered lines instilling confidence at a fraction of the cost.
The trainer design and material soon takes on the form of ones natural foot shape (I have broad feet). In my experience other trainers try to hold their shape expecting the wearers foot to mould into it!
Those unfortunate enough to experience smelly trainers, the built-in deoderant system works effectively, so no need to buy insoles to counter the problem.
Issues if any, the laces are wearing now, but that's down to my heavy use. Cheaper to replace than the new trainers, so its far from a grumble.
I can't be bothered with returning them though and am completely happy with the shoe in general, I just tie them a little tighter and make it work ;D
They are actually really comfortable, but I'd say they are a fairly narrow fit - so be cautious if you like a little more width in your shoes (as I do) as they can start to feel a little tight when wearing them for a prolonged period.
The soles of this type of shoe can sometimes be a little on the thin side - so you feel every stone or rough edge you stand on. Not so with these Merrell's; they've got a good amount of shock-absorption in them.
They've lost a star for me for two reasons: one is the narrow fit (although I appreciate some people will give an extra star for that!), and the other is that the laces aren't very tough. Mine broke after just a few weeks of use whilst tightening them prior to tying them. Believe me - it's not easy to find replacement laces either as they aren't "white" or "grey" but somewhere in-between.
I used them to climb in the Brecon Beacons (as I couldn't find my walking boots) and they held together. Not that they were even slightly waterproof...
I've been wearing these daily for about 8 hours a day for the last 7 months and they've not worn out. I suspect I'm less than half way through the soles so I'd expect around 18 months of daily use on these.
