The boots appear well made, as you might expect from this brand, light and very comfortable to wear. I can't imagine what reviewer David was thinking, as the boots have the usual spongy Merrell footbed!
Sizing is always a bit of a lottery when it comes to ordering any item of clothing online, if you haven't taken advantage of a local stockist where you can try on an item! Merrell have the reputation of being small made, generally... I am a size 9, but I've had three pairs of Moab Vent trainers where I needed a 10 for a correct fit. I've had Merrell waterproof leather mid boots where I needed a 9.5, but curiously, after confidently ordering a 9.5 in these Mountain Kicks, I find the 9.5 slightly too roomy!! I'm happy enough with this, however, as I picked the boots up for £25.00 when Amazon sent me a reminder email asking if I was still interested in the items I had checked out previously....
The leather uppers are supple and look good quality, and this shoe should give good service for some time, as long as you recognise that this is not really a light trail boot : the lacing system is fine, but not good enough for a hiking product. Try walking on a gravel path, and you will feel some of the larger stones through the soles. This isn't painful in any way, but a short hike on a light trail will soon illustrate that these boots, as I said previously, are more suited to pavements... I had sussed this out prior to ordering, so I am delighted with the boots, as they are exactly what I expected, and look and feel smart with jeans, etc..
Blimey, this is so, so sad, spending my time posting reviews on Amazon : what am I doing with my life?! Perhaps all the reviewers of these boots should get together sometime, and we could engage in banal (read anal) conversation as to the relative merits of fairly boring shoes...? Can't wait for my invite to come through the post (are you reading this, Merrell?)
They are the most comfortable pair of any shoes I have worn since I bought a pair of New Balance walking shoes in 2006.
I am 68, working abroad Africa and wear these at least twice a week to work. That said, I would be loath to wear them on a bush walk or hike.
The angle on the heel makes them even more able to absorb the heel shock, especially appreciated after a recent knee injury..
The limit of three pairs of eyelets makes the shoes very easy to put on and take off, especially when flying in cattle class on long flights and one's ankles may have swollen a bit.
This was the second pair of Merrells I have bought, and I decided to get a second Kicks pair, this time in Falcon which is a neutral beige-grey colour. That pair is also good, but not quite as comfortable as the first Bracken Brown pair, maybe a slight difference in flexibility.
As with Merrell shoes, the UK sizing is a bit off, so I followed the advice of others and go from a normal UK 9.5 to 10.5.
When first worn they do come up quite tight fitting but get past this and they are so comfy. I wouldn't bother getting a half size bigger like other reviews suggest as with a bit of perseverance they stretch enough to fit like a glove.
There is one one criticism, namely that the material tends to stretch a bit with prolonged wear and they then become less comfortable, which is when I relegate them to gardening etc and buy a new pair. They are not as robust as the Ecco shoes that I used to wear
But for this they would have got five stars.

Exactly a year after purchase they have given up! On one the upper has parted company with the sole and the laces have parted.Read more
