The Merrell Grassbow Mid Sport Gore-Tex Walking Boots breathable air mesh upper is straddled by a series of synthetic overlays that reinforce its construction without adding undue weight, delivering a shoe that is simultaneously robust, lightweight and flexible. These overlays intersect the lacing eyelets to cinch the midfoot and deliver a secure, adaptive lockdown that can be manipulated by tightening or loosening the shoe. A moulded, external TPU heel counter secures the heel in place to prevent it from slipping as the foot passes through the gait and deliver a more secure overall fit, whilst an M Select FRESH treatment that has been applied to both the mesh lining and removable EVA footbed encourages a fresher internal environment that is free from unpleasant odours. This model also features a Gore-Tex lining in the upper which offers waterproof protection to keep you feet dry whilst out walking. A forefoot shock absorption pad bears the brunt of the increased workload inevitably experienced by the front of the foot as the wearer tackles less even terrain, whether this is absorbing the impact directed toward the toe as it slams into the ground during descents or maintaining consistent forefoot propulsion during ascents. On flatter surfaces, Merrell air cushion in the heel and an EVA midsole compound absorb and then attenuate the impact forces from the heelstrike phase of the gait. An M Select GRIP outsole bears a series of aggressively appointed, 3. 5mm deep lugs that bite into pliable trail terrains whilst also yielding a formidable amount of traction on a multitude of other, varied surfaces.

Other than that, solid construction, lightweight, advantage of Goretex, very comfortable on.
Having done many long distance walks in them now,
I can say that My first impressions were totally wrong, they are still waterproof and going strong!
Probably the only walking shoes I've bought that haven't caused any blisters at all,
I will be buying another pair when these ones finally give in.
They are waterproof, but when walking over muddy fields a great mass of mud builds up on the soles which is very uncomfortable to walk on.
Using them to dog walk when it's damp or on a sunny day to walk a long way, they are lightweight and comfortable and support my ankles well.
Firstly, these are the first walking boots I've ever owned, up until now I've been use to walking shoes but trying to get Vegan walking footwear was proving difficult so I went for these. I had already tried them on in a shop on the high street and had worked out that I needed a size 6 (I usually wear size 5) but they felt really comfortable. I wasn't willing to pay the £120 rrp so I looked online and found them here for £65 so ordered a pair.
My first walk was a 21 miles over the Brecon Beacons with 6300ft of ascent in light rain showers. It was really anxious about wearing the shoes for that distance and at about 5 miles in I had little niggles where there was a slight friction issue but that eased up and I was able to walk the distance with only slightly achey feet at the end on it. However, these shoes are NOT WATERPROOF and after getting wet pretty much straight away, it seeped into socks and my feet, I don't think I'm ever going to find synthetic material shoes that are truly waterproof though! With this said though, I still managed to walk the whole way around in comfort and no blisters.
Unfortunately they didn't last long with daily walking (dog walker) and the sole started to gape away from the main body of the show.. so therefore had wet feet pretty quick! Took back to retailer and was advised to contact Merrell directly who sent another pair.
But.. same thing occurred so its obviously a fault with the shoe design and the glue they use to meld the sole to the sides of the shoe. Need liquid rubber sealed areas higher up the sides of the shoe.. will last lots longer.
Now looking at solomon boots!
