From the Inside Flap
The business of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is one that is ever present in the corporate world. Despite the global recession, the subprime crisis, and the credit slump, it′s evident that, as the economy expands, M&A expand right along with it, becoming an increasingly important part of the corporate finance and corporate strategy fields.
Written to show you the kind of corporate restructuring that can be used successfully within your own corporation, this Fifth Edition of Mergers, Acquisitions, and Corporate Restructurings examines the full range of corporate¿restructurings in use today, from mergers and acquisitions to joint ventures and strategic alliances to divestitures and other kinds of sell–offs. Thoroughly updated, the new edition devotes an entire chapter to the valuation of businesses, including the valuation of both public and privately held firms.
Author Patrick Gaughan addresses the growth and development of the field of M&A through both a practical and historical focus, followed by a review of the laws and rules that govern the field. Gaughan also examines:

While not very technical, and surely dense at times, this book gives you the backbone you need to be aware of what's happening in your company or other companies.
I would not say it is a one stop shop, but the vast amount of theory covered in this book is utterly mind-boggling. It is solid. It should be the standard for any collegiate M&A class--I cannot imagine an M&A education without it.
