A really lovely present for a deserving person of discernment, this book is something special. From the moment you open the cover, outstanding design - and designs - delight your eyes. This is the heartwarming and tastebud tempting story of a family who found a shop. They, and the generations that followed, created gorgeous confections. These are listed and illustrated according to era and the point the family have reached. Each page of text on its high grade paper encourages the eye to linger. The recipe heads the description and family anecdote then the full page picture of the confection. Bliss. Page after page showing treats for the tongue and palate that make you want to drop everything and rush to that wonderful shop. This is the sort of book you have on your shelf and ensure nobody borrows.

Thought I would try this as it featured different items that I normally cook and was not disappointed.
Some of the recipes take a while to finish (on day 4 of 6 for the candied peel at the moment!) but the end results have always been good.

Wow what an amazing book. I was given this as a present recently and I could not put it down. I have my next few days planned out... My family have already put their orders in!!
The book is beautifully laid out with stunning photographs and stylish illustrations. So much so that you get a real feel of "A La Mère de Famille". The recipes are laid out in an easy to follow manner, looking forward to baking and making very soon.

First saw this book in a local bookshop but it's the old story - cheaper at Amazon.

However this is a superb book for those who like confectionery etc.

An essential part of anyone's cookbook library.

I'd have given this book five stars but its confusing narrative throughout just knocked off a star (if it was possible I'd have given it 4.75 stars!) - five stars for the recipes though. Recipes are basically explained - for a novice baker/confectioner just starting they'd have to go look up some techniques or similar recipes for a fuller explanation. Delightful flavours, ideas, illustration and photography throughout. It's a gorgeous book.

This is a beautiful book as well as a useful one. Study the photographs, read the text, imagine the tastes and then make them. Yum.
