The Men Who Stare At Goats is an hilarious comedy inspired by a real life story you will hardly believe is true.
Reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady (George Clooney) who claims to be part of “The New Earth Army”, an experimental US Army unit. According to Cassady, a legion of psychic warriors with unparalleled powers can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it. Now, the program’s founder, Bill Django (Jeff Bridges), has gone missing and Cassady’s mission is to find him. Intrigued by his new acquaintance’s far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to accompany him on the search.
Inspired by Jon Ronson’s bestselling book, this is an eye-opening and hilarious comedy led by an all-star cast.
Includes a free copy of the original Jon Ronson book that inspired the film.

The film darkens when past and present collide, providing Wilton with his big story.
This excellent, underrated and understated little film actually tackles some serious concerns over the real life funding, ethics and methods of psychological experimentation within the military and its subsequent use in the War on Terror. Based on a book by Jon Ronson which researched and analysed the use and development of these covert activities over a 30 year period and their connections to interview techniques by Homeland Security and military intelligence.
Don't expect all out action but do watch for the great acting, perfect pacing, gentle humour and intelligent questions raised
George Clooney proves yet again he is a great tragi/ comedic actor when he's given the right material, and puts in an age defying performance for the flash back scenes. With great support from the 'master' Jeff Bridges (how can that guy can become 20 years older/ younger with just a facial expression is beyond me) the glorious jealousy of Kevin Spacey and the narration of the wise fool played by Ewan McGreggor its well worth more than a second viewing.
The only flaw is that some plot lines where not fully exploited to their subversive advantage (who was Mahmood exactly?) My only theory as to why it didn't do better at the box office though is that a lot of people simply just didn't get it. A sleeper classic.
Neatly switching between Clooney's current mission in 90s Iraq, and his younger days as a trainee in the psychic arts (with a Beatles haircut), the film has a streak of dark humour running through it which is little short of sublime. Perhaps not to everybody's taste, but honestly - what is?
As it states at the beginning "more of this is true than you may think" well that is actually true!
There are actually top secret operations that have run and are still running today by the governement.
These are called "Psychic spies" and their students are taught to finely tune there psychic abilities for remote viewing, astral travel and to predict future events, to name but a few.
So, basically the essence of the film is suprisingly more factual than you may think, including Jeff Bridges character.
But Alas, with all good things often comes the desire for power and corruption (usually by the government)and what should have been for the betterment of man was twisted the other way for the governments own selfish interests. Anyway, this is actually where the story gets good! I am hesitant to say too much about the actual story though as it this has yet to be released.
So, all I will say is, go with an open mind and don't get carried away with what might be true or what might not be. whether you believe the government are capable of doing such things is up to you. If nothing else It is still a good funny movie with good characters and actors that gel together to make a really enjoyable film.
