HASH(0x93ef08e8) out of 5 stars Super Reader 7 Aug. 2007
By average - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
This is a competent job, but the fault here lies with the plot that is adapated. So, much like the movie the best part is clearly the worm bit. Having two of your three best characters out of it, and one not even appearing is not such a great idea.

The Worm guys and the hyperspace car are cool though.
HASH(0x940a27c8) out of 5 stars MIIB: Up there with the original MIB 22 Jun. 2002
By Priscilla Stafford - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
"Men in Black" is probably one of my most favorite movies to watch. Original, interesting, and having a superb cast with Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, the movies will most likely remain one of my favorites for a very long time. So when I heard that "Men in Black II" was coming out on July 3rd, 2002, I was all for going to see it. But I decided first to read the official novelization by Esther M. Friesner to see what it would be like.
Here's the story. An unauthorized spaceship lands in Central Park, carrying a deadly Kylothian warrior. Her name is Serleena and her mission is: to bring the Light of Zartha back to her planet. MIB gets Agent Jay to be assigned to the case whose mission first involves getting back his old partner, Agent Kay. Only Agent Kay, whose memory had been wiped clean so he could retire, holds the secret to either the salvation or destruction of the planets Earth and Zartha.
The story is intriguing and the book can't be put down. It's very much like the original Men in Black, with all the elements which made the movie into such a success. First, about the characters. Jay is now a veteran agent, having a reputation of getting the job done, but he doesn't regularly go 'by the book'. There's also Kay, and even when his memory has been removed, he's still the tough, strong, and emotionless hard bitten guy we all know and love. Frank, the pug/alien is also back, now also working for MIB. His personality seems to have changed a bit. There's Zed, too who gets to do a lot more. But my favorite characters who have returned in MIIB is of course are the Worm Guys. They get lots more dialogue, more action, and get some pretty fun parts. And of course we get lots of new characters; Serleena a Kylothian warrior, Charlie/Scrad the two headed alien, Laura Vesquez who is Jay's love interest, and a few others.
I would actually give the book 4 and 1/2 stars because o Esther M. Friesner's style of writing. There are a few moments where it seems she's giving meaningless information and is dragging the plot a little. But at the same time, she gives some pretty colorful and hilarious insight and the characters thoughts and feelings. One of my favorite parts is where Jay is thinking about this couple and in the book it says: "They had been clearly made for each other, even if cynics everywhere would chime in with 'Yeah, out of spare parts.'" It thought that line was soooo funny!
Anyway, this book is a fun read and highly enjoyable. But please don't think that if you get the book, you won't have to see the movie. Far from it, because of this book I'm more excited than before on seeing the movie! The book is mostly for older teenagers and adults.
HASH(0x9644ad14) out of 5 stars Characters like Scrad/Charlie and the Worm guys got the time they ... 23 May 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase
Men in Black 2 was a disappointing when it hit theaters, and this novelization wasn't much of an improvement. It was however enjoyable for the most part.
Pro:
1.Characters like Scrad/Charlie and the Worm guys got the time they needed
2. the final fight had some tension, unlike the end of the movie, which was dull
3. Cultural/historical information added some interesting details that helped the book length.
4. much better ending, the movie ending was stupid, unnecessary and dragged.

Con:
1.Padding didn't help develop or answer any questions, particularly who the war started
2.Not enough details about the interesting things, like the Kylothians or Zarthan's or anything that would've been interesting or develop the world
3. Didn't deviate enough from the movie, too many of the same faults of the movie stuck Saturday night
4. like the movie it lacked tension all the way through, seemed like a boring

Bottom line: If your looking for a quick read or liked the MIB movies, this is a fun and accurate novelization, but if your looking for something better, not gonna find anything with this book; a fun read, but only the first time through.

Word of the wise: avoid the last 3pgs of chp.3 it's when the worst scene of the movie takes place.
HASH(0x963e70c0) out of 5 stars this book's ok, but the ending isn't the same as the movie 2 Aug. 2002
By Emily - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
This book is fairly close to the movie with the exception of the ending. in the movie, Laura herself is the Light of Zartha, not the bracelet. The daughter of Princess Lauranna, she is sent off to the planet of Zartha to fulfill her destiny and rule her people.
In this book, which, don't get me wrong, is good and hilariously funny, the bracelet is sent off to the planet of Zartha, and Laura is deneuralized and sent to her NYC home.
that's about the only discrepency that i can see. Actually, the additional info in the other parts of the books helps fill you in on other areas, (such as, when Kay and Jay depressurized MIB HQs and fly in, it explains that the security guard was fastened into his seat with a chain so he didn't budge)
Overall, I liked it, and i'd buy it again, even though it doesn't have quite the same ending.
