My previous small china was a 10" Stagg SH - cheap and cheerful. Lovely trashy sound, but it's it pieces now. Made of tin-foil methinks. Wanted a new small china that wasn't Stagg, and since I'm cheap I needed it to be. Enter the Meinl HCS. Never had a Meinl cymbal before, but I know they're a quality brand so I wanted to see what their budget cymbals were like.

First impression were not favourable. It looks very nice, but it has quite a "gongy" sound. So people may like that, but I already have a 19" Sabian china for that. I was hoping for a trashier sound, more like the aforementioned Stagg, but when I went to record it, it improved greatly. With the full kit it's a great accent cymbal. Brightish with a short, sharp decay and not as gongy as I previously thought. It's actually quite nice. I still prefer the sound of that old Stagg, but this is really very not bad, and I'm quite happy with it. Of course if it to implodes after 6 months of use, I'll have to try again.

Christmas present for my sons drum set up. He loves it. great sound as a starter China cymbal. Gigging drummer would want something larger. definitely good for home student looking to add to practice set up.

Not worth it. Cracked up after a couple of weeks of use. Would recommend spending a bit more as you'll just end up replacing these quickly.

As a Metal drummer, I was hoping for a really harsh, trashy sound. This sounds like a really cheap ride cymbal. I would not advise buying this if you're hoping for a heavy sound.
