The MDF "wood" frame would probably crush if accidentally stepped on and the elastic is held on by a couple of staples. Nevertheless, it's cheap and cheerful and does the job.
Slightly concerned about the strap though - it doesnt look its going to hold out for long with just one staple on each side, but so far so good and very effective bit of gear.
I've played hundreds of gigs with it and it is still working well (although it needed some superglue fixing after a two week tour). Overall, surprisingly durable for an affordable product.
NB - you will need to use a bit of string and clip to attach it to your laces, otherwise it will kick off the foot very easily.
First airing at an outside gig with our ukulele band I saw a silver disc come flying off and down the drain cover never to be retrieved.
The pins that hold the tambourine discs in place (?) are loose so that when you tap your foot ( which is the whole idea of this product) the pins work their way out of the plastic casing and the metal discs are free to go rolling off down drains.
Thankfully I had an old broken tambourine so I could extract some replacement discs from that to replace the 2 lost ones.
I then put some thick gaffer tape over the holes to stop the pins sliding out again.
If you do buy this, I suggest you either put some tape over the end of the pin holes or a biggish blob of glue to hold them in place.
I did e-mail the company to tell them about this big design fault in their product and they just said they'd look into it..but no offer of replacement discs or anything.
The elastic strap is quite short and has held up so far but would have trouble getting around a clumpy boot with thick soles.
Having had a go on the more expensive one I sort of wish I'd bought that one instead.
UPDATE: Elastic strap broke while doing a gig last week. Had to fix it myself with new elastic strap. Not good
2nd UPDATE. It looks like they may have taken some of the previous complaints on board and there is a new one with a better design that at leads the pins don't fall out. The elastic strap is still a little bit short
The item came quickly and is a must buy. I am pleased to have bought this as it has added a whole new dimension to when playing music, especially upbeat songs!

Good quality and loud enough with ukes. Essential kit when 'singing one man band'.Published 10 months ago by P. F. White
What a great invention for you to play along with yourself.Published 11 months ago by Craig Leonard Winterburn
Reasonably loud. Has a tendency to come loose when playing and the elastic is only held in place by a staple so short life expectancy. Not Meinl's usual standard.Published 12 months ago by Paul Riley
