Product Description

Product Description

To equip a Cajon with fully adjustable snare wires is an original MEINL innovation and proves yet again MEINL's leading R/D status in the worldwide percussion scene. The snares touch the frontplate from the inside and deliver the classical Cajon sound, which is requisite in Flamenco music. A knurled knob adjusts the amount of pressure used to press the snare wires against the frontplate. Rattling ranging between light and sensitive to very loud can be achieved through adjustment. The entire snare unit can even be turned off completely.. With its frontplate made from finest American White Ash (Fraxinus americana L.), this cajon lives up to the highest standards with regards to sound and quality.

Before you buy this particular model I suggest you do research and find a cajon with the sound you want; it definitely isn't a cheap purchase. However if you like the sound of this particular model then I would definitely recommend it. The build quality is very good, and even under my hefty weight the box feels sturdy and strong, even whilst leaning back. The snares are very quick and easy to apply/remove and don't rattle when disengaged. It's loud enough for an acoustic guitar or piano, but if you are amplifying then the soundhole in the back is big enough to drop a microphone in should you wish.

In conclusion, if you're not sure which cajon you want then go and do some research, watch some videos, listen to some models etc. However if you're thinking of this one then I'd heartily recommend it.

Badly made - had to replace one the first one I bought as the internal structure had noticeable cracks from cheaper wood. Then after only a few uses the frontplate on the replacement started to delaminate (splinter-fest). Meinl are *the worst* company for post-sales support I have ever encountered. Ignore all forms of communication, so don't hold any hope of getting a response from them - even if it is to buy something from them.

    HASH(0x9852da80) out of 5 stars I love it! 30 Sept. 2010

This is an amazing instrument and Meinl makes a great entry-level cajon. It doesn't feel cheap and it still gives great sound. The adjustable snare mechanic is a little strange at first, but after a few minutes of adjusting I was able to easily find a spot where I could have both snare tones and pure, deep bass hits distinct from each other. While I have not yet used this instrument outside, I do know that it works wonders for impromptu sessions indoors.

If you are looking for your first cajon, you have found it! If you already have one of your own, then you shouldn't be reading reviews, you know what you are looking for already, and maybe this is it.

If you are thinking of getting the cheaper Cajon STOP! This one is well worth the additional $89! It simply sounds awesome and the built quality as well.

Wonderful sound, perfect condition, quick shipping. 5 Stars.
Snares are adjustable, screws on top corners are adjustable for snap. I've used this about 5 times in public so far, I usually play guitar/sing and have a friend play along with the Cajon. It's a really easy instrument to pick up and learn how to play quickly. You don't have to put tons of time and effort into it like you do for guitar or a drum set.
It arrived on my front door step in perfect condition in about.. 4 days, after I ordered it. I've gotten many compliments on it, and a few people i know actually want to buy one for themselves. In my opinion, and the opinion of all the people who have seen me play it, it is well worth what I payed for it on This is truly an amazing instrument that is so versatile, it can be played with just about any type of music.
    Without a doubt, 5 stars.
HASH(0x9852deac) out of 5 stars Great and NOT an entry level cajon, its the real deal! 19 Feb. 2016

I don't write reviews, but had to on this one. Some have commented this is "great for beginners" or maybe wasn't quite what they were thinking. Just like other instruments, there are lots of options out there and each musician has their preferences/expectations. I've used this model for years (in locations and crowds of as few as 70 people, on up to crowds over 1500) and just recently purchased a replacement of the same - for me, it's far from beginner, and compared to many in the $100-300 range, this one has some of the best versatility with truly great sound. Well made and if my new one is as good as the original, it'll last for years! On a side-note, Meinl's slap top (lap) cajon is great too!

Maybe I'm too picky or maybe I don't understand cajons well enough. This is only my second purchase of a cajon so I'm still pretty novice.

I do enjoy the ability to turn the snare wires on and off as needed. It gives this instrument a lot more flexibility and versatility. My only criticism is that with the snare wires on, while playing a bass note, the snare wires come into contact more than I would prefer.

Again, this may be an ignorant review as maybe that is how all cajons are suppose to be to a certain extent.

Otherwise, this is a great product. Solid build and great tone for the snare.
