If you're like me, you've read hundreds of reviews of different LED GU10 bulbs, most claiming to be "equivalent" to 50W halogens.
You've even bought around a dozen individual bulbs based on the higest scoring reviews on Amazon and direct from China from places like DX.
All somehow fail to live up to the rave reviews and claims in that:
1. They are less bright.
2. They are a colder colour temperature than halogen bulbs.
3. They buzz or make some other noise.
4. Their claims to 50,000 hours life are wildly exagerated and many fail after a few weeks.
5. They don't dim.
6. The spread of light is either too narrow or too wide.
7. They have no glass cover for the LEDs so condensation in bathrooms and kitchens will cause problems and result in shorts.
8. They have a 'strobe' effect.
9. They are too long. Doesn't personally affect my light fittings, but a problem for some people.

Now as far as colour temperature goes, these are pretty much spot-on. Ever so slightly cooler than halogens, but you really couldn't tell the difference unless you go looking for it.
Brightness wise, they give out a halogen-like spread of good intensity light.
Dim very smoothly, although notably the colour stays the same rather than dimming to a pleasant red glow like halogens.

Ignore any comments saying that these don't dim - they do.
Not all dimmers are compatible with LED bulbs.
For a list of compatible dimmers, see the Megaman UK website (sorry, it won't let me post a link here).
This one works fine:

These must be the fourth or fifth set of LEDs that I have tested against 50 watt halogens. I have returned well over 20 leds because of their unsuitability.
The main problems are brightness..... or lack of it, colour and beam-angle.

Firstly to even get near a 50 watt halogen you need around 420 lux. To do that you need at least a 6 watt LEDs (at the moment). None of the various 4.5 watt devices are usable.. their light was dim, dull or flat...and lacking sparkle. The Megaman 6 watt was at least the brightness of our halogen and also had sparkle.

Second the colour. We choose Very Warm White (around 2700- 2900 K). This proved to be necessary. The various "Warm Whites" and "Cool Whites" that I have seen bring a vampire-like sheen to faces and seem more appropriate for a prison cell. The Megaman device on colour was excellent.

Lastly the beam angle. The eye-ball lights that we have in our ceiling have a beam angle of 120 degrees. The Megaman device has only 35 degrees. In practice, because our lights are not so far apart this difference has not proven to be a problem but you might want to take care on this in your home.

The Megaman devices conceal the LEDs behind a translucent screen so when they are turned off they look quite acceptable.

Whilst the Megaman devices do seem to be very acceptable .. at a just-acceptable price .. I am evaluating some other led lamps with a beam angle of 120 degrees, a lux rating of nearly 620 and a colour of "Warm White"..... so the story has not ended.

I chose these for their wider beam angle and brightness. Six lamps fitted in our 3m x 3m kitchen are so bright I think we should have gone for 4watt instead of 6watt lamps although we are used to the brightness now.

Only issue is the lamp has a slightly deeper and wider bulge behind the rim meaning they don't fit my existing fittings and I've had to buy all new fittings with more room above the lip for holding the bulb.

Was pleasantly impressed with this bulb. It is the cheapest dimmable bulb I could find on amazon and worked well with my dimmer (I did have to change my dimmer though, was recommended one from aurora by Megaman which worked perfectly)
It is not bright enough to replace a 50w halogen but I would say it does the job of a 35w or close. Colour was warm and it dimmed smoothly so I have to say I am quite happy with it and will kit out the rest needed now.

After 10 minutes from new, the bulb dimmed to 10% (not on a dimmer switch) and stays that way. When I switch off, it goes bright before going out completely. so clearly faulty.
Just so disappointed after reading all the rave reviews about this product. Will await replacement and report back, but my confidence in these products is low. I am sure many other LEDs brands are worse, but this one was supposed to be the best (its certainly the most expensive)!

Update:
Amazon have been very good and delivered replacement on a Sunday (48hrs after I reported fault) so full marks to Amazon!

So far the bulb has performed well after a few hours use.

As others have noted, good brightness and light quality (CRI 80), seem to be the cheapest "quality" bulbs you can buy, way cheaper than Philips, Toshiba etc. Amazon price is OK for a 1 off, but if you are buying a lot then you can get them cheaper from energylightbulbs, who ship quickly & reliably.

Was surprised and pleased by the excellent dimming performance. Lutron Grafik Eye is not noted for compatibility with LED's but these dim perfectly all the way down to 10% with no flickering or buzzing. They also work fine with the Varlight Eclique (Varilight V-Pro did not work well though).

Have fitted around 50 of the 6W Warm, 6W Cool & 4.5W Cool (non-dimmable) in the house now (...and still not done!) with no problems or failures.
