The inevitable meeting between these giants of jazz lingered on and on until they finally met in August 1962. Being the major figures of their music they blended in an atmosphere of mutual respect. What was going through their minds is pure conjecture, but the output is sheer delight. The Van Gelder Studio produced a mood. 'Mood Indigo' exemplifies this. 'Wanderlust' and 'The Jeep is Jumpin' underpin the creativity of the leaders. We have Harry Carney and Johnny Hodges , Ray Nance. The swing of 'You Dirty Dog' contrasts with the 'Self portrait of Bean'.
As has been recorded in text after this mastercraft recording Hawk said bean hat on " After four hundred years we made it". Ellington "You don't think it was too soon?" Hawk replied " Maybe we should have waited another fifty years". End of story. Outstanding. It is available, look on the site.
