Product description

Product Description

Third solo album from Steve Mason (The Beta Band), featuring track 'Planet Sizes'. Written at home by Mason, the tracks were then rehearsed in Brighton with touring band mates Steve Duffield and Greg Nielson, before being recorded with Elbow keyboardist and producer Craig Potter at Blueprint Studios in Salford. Following from his 'double political concept album' 'Monkey Minds In The Devil's Time' this album is a move towards a more simple ethic; 'an album where each song is a separate entity, where there is no great narrative running through it.' 'Meet The Humans' is shot through with a sense of renewal following Steve's recent move to Brighton, swinging musically across dance, pop, folk, dub, and deep house influences. It's a record which repeatedly returns to core themes, the possibility of others to redeem the self, the opportunity of change for the better in the individual, the joy of life and the world we inhabit, it's arguably the most complete and direct of Steve's long discography - eleven personal stories combined into one positive and proper whole, the sweep of the human condition written large and full of love and hope and joy.

This is hands down one of the finest albums I’ve heard in the past five years. Another Day, Hardly Go Through and Planet Size are all incredible but as mentioned I’d happily listen to the whole album on repeat – there’s no dud here.

Steve Mason’s last album, Monkey Minds, was also great – including 5 or 6 incredible songs that would be instant classics if released by more mainstream artists – but perhaps a little less accessible due to alternating between the ‘conventional’ songs and more experimental tracks.

As we kiss goodbye to the last remnant's of winter, and spring is calling to us from around the corner.. my taste in music seems to change with it. And this little gem from Steve mason is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Much more commercially appealing than 'Monkey minds in the devils time' Steve has managed to take everything that is unique about his style of writing, and make it cry out to plastered all over radio. The album itself has the kind of sunshine vibe that reminds me of the excellent Stone Roses, and is perfect to listen to driving on your way to work as a morning pick me up. Even with lyrics such as 'act upon your darker thoughts' you just cannot escape the feel good vibe from this album. You can hear the dusting of Elbow (Elbow's Craig Potter produced this album) on the excellent 'Like Water' and the cinematic hip hop vibe of 'Words In My Head' reminds me of a 90's Depeche Mode.

This is my favourite record of the year so far - not a duff track in site.. and once it stops, you can't wait to play it all over again. give this a go :)

A triumph of album making. It's so long since I've heard a 'proper' album. Especially in this age of MP3 individual song selection and playlisting. This album is a joy to listen to as a whole entity from beginning to end. I've only experienced Steve Mason before on the 3 EP's album from the Beta Band so I'm not a died in the wool fan. But honestly this guy is an expert musician. Brilliant.

A cd which deserves to be listened to and appreciated. I was very pleasantly surprised when I first received it and now it is a firm favourite. I love the variety of the tracks and the overall quality of Mason's songwriting.

Steve Mason is a genius and this album is a beautiful and eclectic journey reminiscent of Beta Band but with more more. Well packaged and quick delivery.
