Its a practice that takes PRACTICE, so with continued effort, you can see and feel the benefits that are explained in this book.
The book also does covers a number of Yoga poses which although not directly related to meditation still provides very similar results.

Four different types of meditation are explained and you can chose what is right for you although Jenny Chase does make a suggestion for which type to start with if you are just starting out. I have practiced meditation for about 4 years and as the book states meditation can have a profound effect on your thinking, relaxation and reactions to things happening around you.
It does not take long to feel the positive effects you receive from regular consistent meditation. This book is a great place to start.
