I know that after a few days of light therapy I begin to feel better, so this will certainly have the same effect, but the build, while being nicely shaped, is not that stable: the surface you put it on really does need to be flat and level. It's also worth noting for those in the UK (me) that it comes with a two-pin plug, so an adaptor is needed.
The most puzzling thing about the contents of the package was that it included a square plastic plate and five screws which don't appear to fit anywhere, and there are no instructions about this part. I still don't know what it's for.
With hindsight, I may have gone for one of the smaller, cheaper light boxes, or another with a gradual turn on knob, this one is a bit expensive for what you get, but not dreadful, hence the four stars.
I have it sitting on a bedside table so that I can dose myself with light while listening to the news in the morning. It has small rubber feet, but it shifts a little on the shiny surface when I push the ON button - I'm going to buy some bigger stick-on rubber feet to stop this happening. When you switch it on, it comes to life straight away, no spluttering. And, as claimed, it makes no irritating noise.
The light is well diffused - you can hardly make out the fluorescent tubes behind the panel. It's pleasant to look at, warmer than the usual fluorescent though cooler than a filament light bulb. It is very bright but you can look directly at it without discomfort. It's not advised to do this for more than a few seconds though.
I have another much cheaper SAD lamp in the study, hanging on the wall behind my computer (you can't do this with the Medisana). This one gives a colder light, splutters when starting up, and hums. You get what you pay for.

I don't suffer from SAD, but the winter can be very dreary, so I thought I would give this a go to cheer up those dull dark days. Read morePublished on 25 Nov. 2012 by An Undomestic Goddess
