Nat Alcock and Dan Miles have achieved a masterly study of the subject, and really should be on the shelves of every person who has even the slightest interest in vernacular architecture. Indeed it will be required reading for years to come.

The publishers Oxbow also deserve a standing ovation for the quality of design and production of the finished volume. Whilst Oxbow are renowned for producing books of a high quality, this book sets new standards in quality.........they have achieved a book that is actually exotic!, indeed it is hard to see how they could have produced such a book at this price ( at the time of this review Oxbow Publishing were selling the book at £34!), even at the full price it is still a bargain for such a valuable addition to the study of vernacular architecture.

The authors and the publishers have achieved the impossible.
