having recently completed a tour in support of the thrills, and with support slots with john squire and the coral coming up, it looks like the basement are going to start making some waves. signed to the in fashion 'deltasonic' label (home to the coral and the zutons amongst others) the basement ply a tested folk/indie route. frontman john mullen has a gravelly voice reminiscent of, though i hate to say it, bob dylan. he can be a tad undecipherable live, but comes through admirably on record. of the two tracks, i feel that it is the second that stands out. medicine day, the first track, is by no means weak and srikes you instantly as a jangly folk track and the lead guitar part gives it an extra edge. stuck on the streets (at minus ten) though is full of feeling, especially during the chorus when you can hear john's voice straining. a definite thumbs up and well worth shelling out for.

I don't usually buy singles but this one appealed to me. Only 1000 were issued and after hearing 'Slain the Truth' by The Basement i knew i had to have one. Medicine Day is a fantastic song and the B Side can hold its own as well. Definitely worth the money and a future collector's item. San p it up if you can!!

A perfect slice of jangly Dylan-esque pop. Singer John Mullin's vocals are uniquely brilliant giving the band a definite Capt Beefheart feel.Throw in some infectious melodies and throwaway lyrics and you've got a hit on your hands.
