Every recipe in this book is extremely simple to make, probably more so than any other cook book I've come across. No intricate techniques are needed. The book uses nine symbols (Skin, Joints & bones, Respiratory system, Immune system, Metabolic system, Mental health & nervous system, Heart & circulation, Digestive system, Reproductive & urinary systems) to categorize the recipes. The symbols are printed in the top left of each recipe, and a full list for each is contained in the back of the book. Each chapter and recipe contains a good explanation, while there is also a star ingredient or clever combination at the bottom of each recipe which details the science behind using certain ingredients. A more detailed description of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, fat, fatty acids and phytonutrients is at the end of the book.

Perhaps the book could have added nutritional information (calories, fat, sugar/carbohydrates, protein and so on) for each recipe given it is a healthy recipe book, and not all recipes have accompanying photographs, but I don't think this detracts from the overall effectiveness of the book, which is very good.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough, it will change your life. Since eating the Pinnock Way, I feel better and friends have noticed my skin and hair looking, as they say, amazing.

If you think healthy eating is boring and tasteless, then this is the proof that it is not.

Dale Pinnock's books never leave the kitchen, I use them to write my shopping list and plan my menu every week.

I am vegetarian and although this book is not just for veggies, there are many recipes for us and loads that can be adapted.
I have cooked some of the non veggie recipes for friends and they have loved them.

The details on each recipe telling you what the health benefits are is brilliant and the product detail is priceless when planning other meals that you wish to have an added benefit.

I have lost weight since using his recipes too, because these recipes fill me up and I am not picking between meals as I feel satisfied. It's all about eating a balanced healthy diet, so look at Mr P's book as being a great way to lay the foundations of a healthy you.

I feel compelled to write a review because it's rare that books like this are actually any good. I don't even own the book but I read through almost all of it in a coffee break as it was for sale by the Book People.

This chap clearly knows his stuff nutritionally; in an easy-to-read glossary and information section at the back he talks about different fats, talking not just about omega 3 but EPA and DHA! But in a very concise, accessible and friendly way. This really impressed me, as did his clear understanding that although fat is relatively high in calories, it is not to always be avoided and there are some very healthy fats out there. Makes a refreshing change from the usual rubbish advising a low-fat diet. He is also one of the few mainstream chefs/authors who recognises the need to limit inflammatory omega 6 fats. He doesn't put anxiety-inducing calorie values on his recipes (or any "nutritional information" actually, beyond the beneficial nutrients present) which is brilliant - if people eat the right food there is little reason to because neurotic about quantities.

He has recipes that specifically contribute to healthy gut flora, and are almost all lower in carbohydrates and/or low GI. The food is attractive, fresh, simple and natural, with quite a hands-off approach - very little in the way of lengthy preparation (which often reduces the nutritional value) and allows ingredients to speak for themselves. Nevertheless, some of his flavour combinations are quite novel/interesting; I count myself a fairly experienced home cook but I certainly picked up a few ideas leafing through.

For those who read a lot about nutritional health, I think it's fair to say that Dale is fairly close to a "paleo" style position on healthy eating.

I had ordered this book and The Medicinal Chef. This arrived first and is fabulous!
I have a lot of diet cookery books but this one is fascinating with the nutritional information that I did not know.
I cooked Moroccan Vegetable Tagine and really enjoyed it.
Also, I made apple crisps wonderful as a snack, and Chocolate Sesame Fudge.
I will be working my way through the recipes and can't wait for the other book to arrive!
Dale's sense of humour and enthusiasm shines through this book and I believe he knows his stuff
and wants to share this in a practical way.
Ingredients are mostly easily available and I had most of them in my cupboards and fridge.
I will be using this as my go to cook book and feel very strongly that this information would be
invaluable in the school curriculum for youngsters on healthy eating!
