I bought this for the 86 colour illustrations, but was pleasantly suprised to find it contains much more. The pictures are excellent and each is acompanied by a description which, when taken together, give a thorough summary of the development of armour across Western Europe in the time frame mentioned in the title. Whilst there are a few pictures of the less well equipped such as peasantry and of other arms such as artillerymen, the emphasis is mainly on the heavily armoured nobility. In addition, and although the title doesn't make it clear, the coverage is really restricted to England with the occasional nod to the main English enemies during this period, Scotland and France.
Also included is a very useful glossary of terms for armour.
