"This cookbook, based on Michael and Daniel's successful Meatball Shop restaurant, is comforting and full of life. Written in an easygoing voice that is fun and inspiring, it reflects America's love affair with meatballs and now makes them accessible to everyone."--Scott Conant, chef and owner of Scarpetta restaurants, TV personality
"Daniel and Michael have built a business that is truly special, and this book is an accurate reflection of the kind of guys they are. Finally a book about balls written by two guys who have a big enough pair to impress even me."--Andrew Zimmern, chef, author, and host of Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods"

We firstly bought it as a memento of our trip, but it has turned out to be a book we refer to regularly when in the mood for meatballs.
The recipes we have tried from this book have all been a success and are very easy to follow (have uploaded a couple of images to give you an idea of a typical page). Although we have tended to only cook the less adventurous recipes (traditional balls / mushroom sauce etc).
The book is split into 6 main sections, much like the menu in the restaurant:
1. The Balls
2. The Sauces
3. Stick to your bones sides
4. The Veg
5. The Salads
6. The Sweets
Again like the restaurant, what is great is that you have options to select which balls you want to make and which sauce you want to put with it.
Note as it is American, all recipes are in the wonderful `cup' format, which isn't difficult to follow, but just something to be aware of.
I have yet to try and of the recipes from section 3 onwards, simply because we bought the book for sections 1 and 2 really... seems bad / lazy on our part but this is how we use the book!
So to sum up the books recipe page layout is great, the meatball and sauce recipes we have tried have been excellent... So why only 4 stars? Well because we own this book and The Bowler's Meatball Cookbook, and I just very slightly prefer the Bowler's book because there seem to be more recipes and I cook from it more often. But I sincerely do love this book for nostalgic reasons as well as the tasty ball / sauce recipes.
If you like meatballs or have eaten in the NYC Restaurant, I would absolutely recommend this book. But especially if you have eaten in their restaurant.
However, not only beef meatballs but 'balls' made out of vegetables, fish and every type of meat you can imagine, Chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Pork etc, etc as well as all manner of combinations, the right choice of pasta, rice, noodles, quinoia, and even cous cous. The book also has desserts, salads and side orders with great detailed recipes and super photography.
If you think you would like traditional New York Meatballs such as seen in the movie 'Goodfellers' or 'Once Upon A Time In America', then this is your book.
