This book had me gripped from the start. Starting off as a typical romance novel & then turning into a more serious & captivating read. An emotional rollercoaster that had me dying to find out what happens next. A few laughs & plenty of tears. Brilliant first novel. I will definitely by keeping my eyes open for her next one.

As someone who rarely reads romance novels, it was only be chance that I started to read this. Having been familiar with Blaithin's other (non-fiction) work, I thought I would give it a go and I'm glad I did. As other reviewers have said, the book is full of twists and turns and you're torn for who you should trust and who you want to scream at. On more than one occasion I've wanted to shout at a few of the characters, which I normally take as a good sign.
There is a deeper heart to Purple Tulips in it's discussion of PCOS which makes it hit home in another way. Absolutely recommend that you give this book a go.

I wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading The Meaning of Purple Tulips. I found I couldn't put it down once I stared it. I finished it at 2am. Sleep who needs it when you have a good book. I found myself loving Faye from the beginning & agonizing over her choices along with her. The booked 'sucked me in' from the very beginning. I also loved your ending. Had a tear in my eye. I now eagerly await your next installment whatever it may be.

Before you read The Meaning of Purple Tulips you could be fooled into thinking that this story is "just" a romance; something breezy to read over the summer which does not provoke much thought... and while this book is certainly something to read this summer it is far from a breezy sketch of a storyline that gets you through your lazing by the pool. This book is a stay up all night page-turner! You are immediately sucked in to O'Reilly-Murphy's female protagonist's life and by the time you realize that this fabulously written book is full of ingenious plot turns and is more than just a typical romance but encompasses the nature of love, family and the ideals of marriage you are unable to stop until you find out what happens in the end, and to O'Reilly-Murphy's credit you would be hard pressed to predict it! This is a book that should be on a bestseller list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never judge a book.... 1 Aug. 2012

A surprisingly good read. I couldn't put it down. Poignant, refreshing, funny and sad, this novel shows an insight into marital problems, fertility issues, love, life and happiness. I loved the unexpected twists and O'Reilly Murphy captures the readers attention from the first page right through to the end. I highly recommend this read and look forward to more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised by tulips 16 Aug. 2012

Generally I'm not a reader of this genre but as I heard the book discussed over dinner I decided to purchase it. Yes I was surprised. Surprised at the speed at which the story develops; surprised at the twists and turns; surprised at the insights into the human quest for love and happiness and pleasantly surprised by the easy style of language and writing. I guess that the writer has looked into her heart and written "The Meaning of Purple Tulips".
3.0 out of 5 stars Soap Opera Fans Will Enjoy 20 Oct. 2012
By Texas Gulf Coast - Published on Amazon.com

I liked how the book has short chapters. The author took the time to title each chapter as well. I was able to read a couple of chapters each night.

The reader gets to experience the main character's growth in maturity and improved decision making. I'm guessing the book is fairly autobiographical. With the first person narration it reads like a letter to friend or a diary entry.

At first I thought the book would appeal to fans of Sex in the City, but as I read on, I began to believe that soap opera fans will appreciate the plot twists.
