I wasn't sure what to expect from this novel, I was drawn by the beautiful cover, something I usually don't even look at, and it was classed as New Adult romance. I thought that would mean, hopefully, a good story - a romance to savour and enjoy - and not one of the thinly veiled sex scenes parodying as novels that proliferate the market. I like, no - love - erotica but sometimes I just want to read some romance, some characters with a real story that don't simply take one look and rip each others clothes off :0. Well, Me, Cinderella? filled my expectations and delivered much more. Its a beautifully written slow burn romance. We can feel Brynn and Eliot's attraction for each other right from the start, but they are both cautious, to the point Brynn gives him a false name and he exercises his usual prudent avoidance of too much personal detail. Brynn doesn't know who he is when they first meet, and is shocked when she sees him overseeing the test for the prestigious internship in Hungary she really wants to win, and he's shocked to see Brynn there.
Things heat up once they get to Hungary. Eliot is still telling himself she's just a student, even as he makes arrangements for her to travel in a private plane, and buys her clothes suitable for the weather. They become closer, but each are so guarded because of past troubles that its a beautiful, slow dance. Brynn realises much sooner how much Eliot means to her, but she is scared he doesn't feel the same. He's older, and has a totally different life and upbringing to her, and she can't see why he'd want her.Read more ›
Bryann wants to go so much. Its where her mother died and she sees it as an opportunity to go and see her grave. Eliot is a complicated guy, widowed when his wife died in a accident. He can't seem to move on so when Bryann starts freeing feelings in him he didn't think existed since his wife died, he doesn't know how to cope so he tries to distance himself from her. Bryann and Eliot both have complicated lives.
I loved the storyline and really got into the story from start until finish. I found some of the mathematics parts complicated and hard to read as i didn't understand it but there were very few moments like that and Bryann and Eliot's story was brilliant to read. Eliot was so stubborn a lot of the times and he kept making me angry but it kept me wandering what was going to happen between Bryann and Eliot.
Brilliant read and i'm now so excited to read Broken prince, book 2 and find out what is going to happen between these two.
Me, Cinderella? is one of my favorite genres of book, in that it is a teacher/student romance, I am not sure why I have such a great big soft spot for this sort of story, but I do and I loved this one.
What makes it even better is the fact that although we are talking about two very damaged souls in Eliot and Brynn, the issues they have with themselves and each other are relatable. You won't find any insta-love, boffing from the first meeting or kinkiness within this book (not that I dislike this, but it is nice to have some variation once in a while).
What you will find is a beautifully written book; some of the prose is almost poetic in its writing, and Aubrey's descriptive style brings everything to life in vivid detail. From the ice flowing on the river Danube, to the death of a deer by a Hunter's arrow, it was all too easy to see in the mind's eye and made it quite an emotional roller-coaster for me as the reader.
The book is set partly in California, but mostly in Hungary, and this was another BIG plus, it makes a change to read a story of this genre based in Europe rather than just the USA.
Eliot *sigh*, reminded me a little of a certain Professor Emerson, however where I have in parts found him quite a cold fish, Eliot Herceg is anything but. In fact this is a man who is really in touch with his emotions; he blames himself for the loss of his wife 10 years previous and as such doesn't believe he deserves happiness due to it.
Brynn is also grieving; the loss of her mother at an early age, and coming to Hungary for study has opened up all the scars from that loss. As well as dealing with her blossoming emotions towards Eliot.Read more ›
I wasnt sure i was going to like this book at the start, i was a bit bambozled by all the math talk, but as you get further into the story we get more relationship and romance than math.
Me, Cinderella is a slow burn romance that has a nice steady flow to it, its not intense and all consuming romance.
Brynn and Eliot have been brought up in very different ways and have had very different lives, Eliot has a loving brother and sister in law a beautiful family home, he is practically a prince in Hungary.
Brynn has lost her mother been abandoned by her farther, and has been brought up by her grandmother with very little money.
Brynns small act of kindness brings Eliot and her together on a day that is very hard for Eliot, just when he is feeling his worst this beautiful girl shows him some kindness, there is a instant attraction for them both, and the story blossoms from there.
Eliot is older than Brynn and tells himself that he should stay away from Brynn, but they are both drawn to each other, who knew math could make a relationship!
This book has a nice ending and has a excerpt for the next book of Brynn and Eliot, i think it would be nice to see where the story goes next, as i feel i wanted a little more from this book, but i guess that's what the author wants, to leave you wanting more!
