The software is as reliable as ever with McAfee, it ain't the best out there but it's good at what it does in terms of parental controls, firewall, and dead software clean-up (which I really needed). Once it's up and running it's non-intrusive and provides security and safety without you even knowing that it's operating. The package does work with PC and MAC, but MAC only gets the Internet security and none of the extras (MACS are not as prone to Internet danger anyway).
Others have commented on the lack of a CD contained in the pack but with fewer and fewer machines having DVD readers I think this makes sense. I only have a rather old PC that has the capability to use a DVD. The software seems to do the job though I have a feeling that all the main stream anti-virus software will provide the protection you need.
The only problem I have with McAfee is that I have recurrent problems trying to register new software. I find the registration system clunky and am often asked to pay for the product I have a registration code for! Installation of this software was no different so a star is dropped for this. I wish they'd wipe their database and just let users install the software rather than wanting your details registered so they can sell you more products in the future.
Overall a reasonable choice of software especially for Mac and PC users.
The only reason I haven't given 5 stars (and I would have proffered 4.5) is that the user interface is neither friendly or modern. Offering the same user interface screen as McAfee Total Protection, it seems poor compared with previous versions and certainly behind Kaspersky and Norton. Having said that, the idea is that you shouldn't be looking at it all the time, and the real plus is the speed it works at and the limited difference it makes to the speed of your pc.
Some people will ask what is the difference between this product and McAfee Total Protection? The answer is not a lot - primarily the latter offers data encryption as an added level of security on your machine. If you want to encrypt then pay the small difference, otherwise get this product.
This product has the added advantage of being able to be used on a Mac
My advice is don't mess around with unheard of brands. You know McAfee is safe and secure, so just buy it.
A friend kept boasting that he did not need anti-virus software on his MAC as there were no viruses 'in the wild' for MACs. Then he caught one! He had to take it to a MAC specialist to be cleaned.
This McAfee package would have protected his MAC as well as my PC and laptop.
Although it works with a MAC, it is just the anti-virus suite.
On my PC, it is the full package including Firewall and virtual keyboard. I love the virtual keyboard when logging onto my bank's website. My key presses cannot be intercepted.
I was pleased that McAfee have simplified the user interface. Previous versions of Kaspersky internet security had become quite intimidating. I run a resource monitoring program on my windows sidebar. There was no increase in resource usage after installing this software, excellent.
Compared to the old CD, DVD or USB driver, installation don't need any internet connection before activating the software and updating it and it can be done later or after installation, whereas in this one, you need the internet connection to download the software and at the same time gets the latest update. sadly you cannot install or download the program if you have any internet .
Maybe I get used to the old way of software installation as now a day everyone and everywhere got internet connection and for sure, you will not buy an INTERNET SECURITY PROTECTION if not going to use internet.
Once downloading is complete, Installation is easy on both mac and PC that ever your granny can do it (oh make sure they can still read and have their eye glasses on whilst reading the code lol!) . Straight after, you will see the system is up and running - scanning the unit and updating the program. The layout of the program in the Home setting is clean unlike the old one. Another thing you gonna like in MCafee is the online back up but it's limited to 1GB only.
Parental control is another easy to set up that you can use its default or customise the program ensuring that you'll have the parental control and protection for you child / children.
This is a great value to buy that you don't need to buy a separate software for your Mac and PC. It has a separate code card for each unit and again all you need is to download the software from the internet.
