absolutely amazing series! fell in love with the story line almost instantly!
pre warning though, after reading the first book (maze runner) you will be confused about whats going on as you're left on a serious cliff hanger but it picks straight up in the second book (scorch trials) but this again leaves a lot of questions unanswered..
throughout the series there are many questions left running through your head but they are all answered once you've read all of them, trust me its worth it!
just make sure you read them in the following order:

maze runner, scorch trials, death cure, kill order (prequel but please read it last as most of it won't make sense until you've read the others!)

Having watched the movie of the first book before reading it, I was so disappointed that it was touch and go whether or not I would buy the book at all! However, the film's confusing conclusion left so many questions unanswered that I did go ahead and buy the Kindle collection of all 4 of the 'Maze Runner' books ... and I'm so very glad I did! The story line starts with the main character, Thomas, being unceremoniously dumped into a maze which is already populated by around 50 other boys. The characters cannot remember anything from their past prior to the maze and are struggling to survive on a day to day basis. Their objective is to escape the maze and they have been trying to do this without success for 2 years. Of course, when Thomas arrives, things begin to go wrong and this creates some conflict between the boys. As the story develops across books 1-4, it becomes clear where these boys came from, who is driving them and for what purpose, but I should warn you that it's only really when you get to the end of book 4 that everything is absolutely crystal clear. Initially, I was concerned that book 4 centred around completely different characters to the ones I had followed in books 1-3. Don't be put off by this though - it's a real page turner, (as all of the books are!) and I was actually really sad to finish reading them.

Really enjoyed these books. Once you get past the Gladers own language (shanks, klunk etc.) it's a nice easy read. Obviously designed for a younger audience, but meant I could read all 4 books in 3 days. Good for fans of dysopian futures. Nice change to read books without a heavy romantic side story.

If you look at the print length listed in product information, it says that it is only 96 pages long, don't worry however as this is just a mistake and I can say that it is in fact longer than 96 pages. Which is lucky, else it would be considerably shorter than all of the books separately let alone combined. Hope this helps. Can't wait to start reading...

My son is an avid reader but for him to get through the first 3 books in a week just shows that he really like this series. For cross reference he also loves skullduggery pleasant, the cherub series and Percy Jackson. These books are clearly of the same quality (mums, if you've not read skullduggery I recommend to; they're hilarious) as these others so they're a great choice for a teenage present.

If we exclude the prequel (because I haven't bothered to read it)

The series is highly addictive and creative until the last book of the series. They built up SO MUCH mystery and suspense, so much hype that in the end THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW TO FINISH IT!!!! The actual ending is okay, but the entire final book was pretty much a useless addition.

I find it this review similar to the Divergent series where I ignore the prequel, absolutely love the first 2 books and hate the final book.

Similar to the Hunger Games but keeps you on the edge ALL the time. Looking forward to the film but also a little frightened too!!
Have to admit I didn't like the fourth book as much, but puts things into perspective.

Extremely disappointed with most aspects of these books. Found the whole plot concept to be completely ludicrous and could not take the story line seriously. Reading the story from the view point of someone who has had his memory wiped, although annoying, was bearable at first. However his refusal to regain his memory when free from Wicked smacked of laziness and inability to clear up severe logical anomalies. Despite all my issues with these books, I was still not prepared for the twee, "fairy tale" ending. Three books about a "fight to save mankind" finishing up with "and 200 of them walked through the magic door and lived happily ever after". In all fairness, the prequel book added to the end of this collection was more believable but wasn't enough to convince me to read more from this author ( or to go and see the films )
