These Maxedition bags are not cheap. But they have a solid reputation. With that in mind, I bit the bullet and bought this bag.
It's early days yet, but so far I'm pleased by the overall size. I do have a couple of niggles though. The first is the bottle storage area. You can cinch down the cord across the top of a water bottle to hold it in place, but because the cord is fixed in place above the pouch, it's fiddly to get the bottle in there to start with. My larger bag has a similar system, but the cord hooks into place before you cinch it down. The other niggle is almost the exact opposite problem. Unlike my other two bags, the inner main pouch doesn't have a cord cinch closure, which isn't great for security.
I've included photos of both areas. Please note ; the cord you can just see in the main pouch is only the fixed knot used for the outer water pouch cord.
If I'd only had one niggle, I wouldn't have marked this down. If it wasn't such an expensive bag, I likely wouldn't have marked it down. However, for the price and reputation, I had hoped for slightly better practical application to those two issues. Therefore, as much as I don't want to, I'm knocking off a star on my review.
Edit to add: a couple of features I have found useful are the grab handle at the top of the bag, and the D ring on the shoulder strap... the D ring has been useful to clip on a torch within my easy reach.
Fits an iPad mini in a protective case. The little pocket on the front is great for pens, keys etc. There is a pocket in the lid flap, but only big enough for charging wires or some keys. The side pocket is big enough for glasses or similar. The main compartment is not big- a couple of paperback books maybe. The bottle pouch is big enough for a nalgene or a small thermos, and has an adjustable string to tie in other sizes of bottles.
Comfy enough for walking around town, not really for the wilderness. It slides about too much for long distance walking. Looks a bit like a handbag too- a manly one, but still.
