The usual trick of poorer quality ingredients. Eat a mars bar and scoup of whey protein instead, it's healthier. Learn to read ingredients and nutritional profiles people then you will see through the scams. Old bar 24g protien, new bar 20g protien with 25% more sugar.
Protein bars, like protein supplements of any kind, need to be consumed with caution. It's never been a secret in bodybuilding/gym circles that too much protein, especially animal protein, is not good for your kidneys. Trust me, I know first hand. Consumed in moderation, they should be fine, but do be aware that the vast majority of protein supplements are not regulated in the UK, so you are literally taking the manufacturer's own product description at its word.
As for these particular bars, Maximuscle have always seemed to be one of the better brands, with a range of different products depending what you're looking for. Unfortunately, in 2017, they decided to bring out new recipes for their bars, which was a mistake. Most of the flavours are inexplicably unpleasant tasting. Not that you expect protein bars to taste like a double chocolate fresh cream éclair, but honestly, I don't know what they were thinking when they did this. Nutritionally they claim to be the same or better, but they do not taste good. This oat and raisin flavour was more bearable than most of the other new recipes, which I think it down to the oat content.
Really bad, too sweet, has rasins in there. The new formula is no good, I have been using maximuscle progain flapjacks since 2009. The new recipe is absolutely crap, they have 4g less protein and the creatine content has been reduced, yet the amount of sugar in the bar has increased. To me it looks like cost saving measures while keeping the price the same. There are better bars for a lower price, e.g. my protein flapjacks are great.
