The usual trick of poorer quality ingredients. Eat a mars bar and scoup of whey protein instead, it's healthier. Learn to read ingredients and nutritional profiles people then you will see through the scams. Old bar 24g protien, new bar 20g protien with 25% more sugar.

I'm a 33 year old female and work out 4-5 days a week, a mixture of dance and gym stuff. I eat quite healthily on the whole, apart from I have a very sweet tooth and enjoy a bit of cake. I generally try to avoid chocolate bars as a habit but do need a mid-afternoon snack to tide me over until dinner time, so I typically have either a piece of fruit or one of these if I want a few more calories: Grenade Carb Killa High Protein and Low Carb Bar, 12 x 60 g - Caramel Chaos
TASTE & TEXTURE
This bar is described as an "oat and raisin high protein flapjack with creatine, half covered in a milk chocolate couverture coating".
I'm not quite sure what a couverture coating is but looking at the bar in real life can only presume it's a fancy way of saying "the bottom half is dipped in chocolate"
It's quite a solid bar as flapjacks go, but definitely more of the chewy textured flapjack. It doesn't have a crunch to it. The raisins aren't that prominent but add a little bit of texture. The chocolate is a tasty addition.
I find it a really nice yummy snack. I've tried many different protein bars and many of the other Maximuscle protein bars taste very odd with a dry grainy unappealing texture. This one is completely different and it also has about 50% more calories than your average protein bar if you're looking to gain mass.
NUTRITIONAL INFO (per 90g bar)
311 cal per bar / 20.4g protein / 41.1g carbohydrates (9.0g sugars) / 6.1g fibre / Salt 0.3g / Creatine Monohydrate 3.4g / Creatine 3.0g
The bar is quite a reasonable size, and unlike other sweet treats I actually find that if I eat one of these for breakfast I have sustained and steady energy until lunch, instead of the feeling of being a bit shaky before lunch if I've had a cereal based breakfast or too many sugary snacks.
Touted as "Progain size" I checked their website and the marketing blurb reads:
"For individuals looking for muscle growth - protein is the key. Maximuscle Progain flapjacks offer a convenient way to boost the protein content of your diet whilst providing complex carbohydrate and added creatine to support repeated bursts of high intensity exercise (when a minimum 3g of creatine are consumed per day)."
It's hard to judge whether or not I've seen any muscular gains from eating a few of these bars, but I have been eating them for breakfast and find that they're enough to fuel a workout and also get me through to lunch. If you wanted to gain serious mass you can add 1-2 of these bars on to your normal food for the day rather than eating them as a meal replacement.
With a decent protein hit (20.4g) and a large dose of fibre (6.1g), these are certainly beneficial to me and I've noticed that I've looked more lean and fit just by replacing my snacks with either this flapjack or one of the Promax bars (Lean or Restore, which I'm also trialling on Amazon Vine).
The whole Maximuscle range has been certified not to contain any banned substances, which will be a big bonus for people who are competitive athletes, but some of the ingredients do seem a bit odd if you're a health-conscious person (E numbers etc.)
By far the most satisfying of the Maximuscle range, but still well short of competitors like Bulk Powders High Protein Flap Jack Bar in terms of nutritional profile, quality and taste. This leads on milk protein, which is good, but that is topped up with lower quality hydrolysed collagen. There's also a dash of wheyprotein. As you'd expect from a gainer, it contains roughly half as many calories again as other Maximusle bars and that's from slow release carbs which is good too.
