Worth every penny this product. For ages I had been contemplating adding a second display, but my pc had only one vido out. I did not really want to buy and install an expensive video card with dual monitor support. So after having put it off for ages, when I was directed to this I changed my mind instantly.

Works like a dream, so simple to use and install and all through USB!!

For anyone who wants to add a second monitor but wants little expense and really easy install then go for this.

The product works as advertised and I can now extend my desktop to another monitor even though my machine doesn't have an external monitor socket.

As another review pointed out, performance isn't as high on the secondary monitor as on the primary one, but this is to be expected with this type of device. On my machine, moving windows about is a little jerky and video playback performance is acceptable but not perfect.

If you need high performance, then you probably want to avoid this kind of technology. If you just need a lot of windows open, this product is fine.

To be fair, the specs don't claim that it works on anything but Windows. I bought it anyway in the hope that it contains a DisplayLink chip and that the DisplayLink Mac drivers would work with it. But no luck. I'm sure it works fine on Windows but I didn't test it. Amazon refunded me, and I purchased a Sparkle X-Link adapter instead, which works on Mac (much pricier though.)

I bought an Acer all-in-one, as we are lacking desk space. Then I discovered it had no SVGA output to connect to the projector! This device works well, with one proviso: it is very processor hungry, which isn't a problem for things like Powerpoint. However, if your processor is less than state-of-the-art and you try to show a DVD through it, the CPU can really start to struggle. One workaround is to reduce the resolution, but beware! The Acer all-in-one is widescreen and it will refuse to show the lowest resolutions. Not a problem, you think, because I'm now watching the projector screen rather than the monitor. However, if you forget to reset the resolution back to something the monitor can display, before you close the Adapter app, you can end up with two blank screens and no graphical user interface to point your mouse at! And it is an awful lot harder to sort that problem out than you might think, especially if the user has tried to reboot out of trouble!

It does the job, but I do find three things annoying.

    1. The video output (to my monitor at least) is not particularly crisp. There's a slightly blurry quality to it which makes it less pleasant to use.

    2. It doesn't work with Windows 7 Aero. So when you plug it in, say goodbye to your swishy effects and your taskbar previews etc. I find this quite annoying as I use browser previews to switch between dialogs etc quite a lot. It's not the end of the world, but I do think that this is a fairly serious disappointment.

    3. You can't re-orient the screen position.

I used this for nearly a year with Windows XP. Performance was perfectly adequate for what I wanted - a third monitor at work to put general junk on. Then my employer finally moved us to Win7 and I got an x64 machine. It blue screened. I'm a software developer with many years experience and I couldn't persuade it to work for love nor money.

It's shame. I liked having a third 'junk' monitor :-/

So: 4 stars if you're running Windows XP x86. No stars for Win7 x64. It was also a struggle to recover from the blue screen although that was more because our IT department (bless the li'l darlings) had disabled system restore on my new computer.

I recently wanted to opt for another extended display. This works rather well and possesses resolutions up to 1440x900 32bit! Very simple tray icon options (primary, extend, mirror and off) I was recommended to upgrade for a better display card but this would be a better choice where it installs via USB. Very little time to install using the product as a third monitor works a treat! Don't be put off by its design almost the same size as a mouse.

This adapter is simple, cheap and effective. I have seen reviews saying how slow this is, but that only happens when owners use the Windows display settings to change resolution, etc. If you use the adapter's own utility it works perfectly. A great product at a great price!
