Max Factor Excess Volume Extreme Impact mascara is un ultimate combination of extreme volume then an intensifying lacquer top coat for a intense jet-black finish. The base coat is a lash-thickening formula that contains volumising spheres, wax and dark pigments to create a high quality finish with an abundance of high impact volume. This, combined with our big brush ensures extreme volume. The intensifying lacquer top coat is thinner than the volumising base coat, allowing it to flow across the volumised micro texture of the base layer, leaving a smooth, polished, intensely black finish. The lacquer-based formula further thickens & seals the lashes, instantly smoothing them and increasing the volume for a truly excess lash look that lasts all day. Suitable for contact lens wearers

If you have sensitive eyes, please do not use.
If you have dark and regular length lashes, then simply using the lacquer does the job, but if you want crazy length and volume, just use the lacquer second. I used it over Xmas and admittedly, I was heavy-handed with it and looked a bit like a frightened animal the first time round, but wised-up the next time.
The only downside to this is if you've made the mistake of putting too much on, it does dry quickly and water won't get it off - you need an oil-based wipe. And, when you want to remove it, you need several of the same wipes, which can be a bit tiring after a late night.
Overall, it is a good buy and I can see this lasting far longer than my current mascara. Oh, and the item is quite pretty, but too heavy to be kept in a handbag.
The Max Factor Excess Volume mascara comprises a central barrel, with screw off compartments at either end labeled number 1 Extreme Volume and number 2 Dark Lacquer. Both end sections contain a fixed brush and you apply mascara to your lashes from section 1 first, followed by an application of the lacquer from section 2. Sounds simple, yes? Well, not exactly.
If you were applying mascara from compartment number 1, the brush remains attached to the chunky central barrel that still has section 2 fixed to the other end. This makes for the clumsiest applicator I have ever seen. Added to this, the length of the applicator wand - including the brush - is only 4cm, while the width of the barrel is 8cm. I was aware of a thick black object in my line of vision when using it.
My other gripe is not only the short length of the brush, but also the thickness of it. Fine if you still have long and luxurious lashes, but not so accurate when applying to shorter lashes or those hard to access ones in the corners. I had to clean off bits where the thick brush had skimmed my upper lids and left marks.
The mascara itself, like all Max Factor mascaras, is very good and doesn't clog but - once I applied the lacquer - my top and bottom lashes started sticking together.
That old saying about you can't improve on perfection holds true for my experience of Max Factor Masterpiece High Definition mascara. It has a lightweight, medium-length, slim wand and brush and reaches all the little fiddly lashes, whilst giving volume and length. I won't be changing over to this new one, thanks.
I don't know whether it is because it is a 2 part application but whatever it is, my lashes looked much improved when using this product.
The applicator brushes do a good job of separating the lashes and coating them with the No 1 Extreme Volume Mascara and then finishing off with the No 2 Dark Lacquer.
In latter years I have tried several different brands and types of mascara but to date, this Max Factor has given the best results. It doesn't say it is waterproof, however it did need to be removed with cleanser lotion.
It is quite chunky to carry around in your handbag, but to be honest I found that 1 application at the start of the day was enough.
With initial problems with the build over, the actual product is good. There is a definite difference when you use both brushes together; the overcoat certainly builds on top of the other. There was a little clumping, but careful application soon put pay to this. The makeup is noticeable and looks good, but with extra application, extra removal is also needed. `Excess Volume' was thicker than usual mascara and therefore needed more force to remove. This added to the funny shaped bottle means that the product is good, but it has faults.
