Maverick by Chelsea Camaron is a quick read at only 71 pages. Kenzy and Maverick have just reconnected, but Kenzy is a changed girl and she isn't that awkward girl that Maverick remembers from school. Maverick is a roughneck with no intention of settling down his wild ways, but there's a softer side to be found with him. That side is all about family and taking care of his dad and making sure is dad is okay.
For me, I felt a lot of time was spent on describing the disease, the effects of the disease, and ultimately dealing with the disease. I don't know if it's just me, but the fact that the timeline spanned a year and there were huge chunks of time between chapters lost me just a bit. But, I really enjoy Chelsea Camaron's style of writing, and her characters come to life on the page.
Kenzy and Maverick cross paths a few times and you can see the sexual tension building, but is she just one more conquest or is she the one? How does Maverick deal with the new normal that his life becomes? And is Kenzy the woman he needs or just the woman he wants? Check out Maverick for these answers and more.
Maverick and Kenzy are combustible when they are together, even his dad can see that. Maverick's dad can also dole out some sage advice. I really liked his 'talks' with Maverick basically telling him to get his head out of his ***.
Maverick is a complete story, and the beginning of a new series. Look for additional books to come out surrounding secondary characters of the storyline.
Maverick begins with MaKenzy (Kenzy) moving back to her hometown after ending things with her longterm boyfriend. She is determined to start over, and adjust to life newly single. With an apartment and job lined up, she is well on her way to start the next chapter in her life. The last thing she needs or wants at this point is to open her heart up to another man.
Maverick is a man who works hard, and plays harder. He's with a different woman every night, and has earned the nickname "Tapper" as a result. He's not ashamed of how he is, and makes no apologies for how he lives his life. However, a health scare with his father makes him realize that nothing in life should be taken for granted.
When Kenzy and Maverick begin spending time together as she helps him take care of his father, he knows that he wants her in his life. But Kenzy is aware of Maverick's past, and can't deal with the possibility of opening herself up, only to be hurt again. Can Maverick convince her that he now knows what's important in life, and to give him a chance?
Maverick is a great start to a new series. It doesn't end in a cliffhanger; the next books are about secondary characters from this book. Highly recommend.
I first read this novella when it was published in an anthology last year and it was such a sweet and down to earth story, with some very heart-tugging and tender moments.
A woman meets the man of her dreams in an unlikely place and through a life changing experience for both of them, finds the family and love she is missing in her life.
Maverick is a beautiful romance with some serious real-life situation elements that is typical with this author's very loving, family centered books.
If you loved Chelsea Camaron's Love and Repair series, you will love this sentimental and emotional short as well!
**** 5 **** "a game changing experience" stars
Chelsea Camaron delivers a genuine and impactful novella revolving around real world issues. With this quick read, she keeps you turning the pages to see what happens to Maverick and Kenzy and offers a whirlwind ride that you do NOT want to miss!
Kenzy is trying to find her inner strength and find her true self after getting out of an emotionally taxing relationship. She had her life all planned out and her boxes checked off until life conveniently took a wrong path. But - did life actually take the right path for her? Picking up and moving back home, she sets out to figure out what she really wants. Being an ICU nurse, she knows that life can change in a matter of moments so she doesn't want to waste anymore time.
Maverick works on an oil rig and is nicknamed "Tapper" by all those around him. He works hard and gets dirty and plays even harder. Living life to the fullest has always been the focus of him and his friends. When life unexpectedly throws his family into a tailspin as his dad deals with diabetes and the consequences of the disease, he finds strength and courage in a woman he has not seen since high school. Her ease and way with his father reminds him of his mom and memories flood his mind.
Kenzy continues to spend time with Richard, Maverick's dad, and even after he's moved off the floor, she goes to visit him in the hospital. Richard seems to light up whenever Kenzy is around. As Maverick learns how to maneuver all the things in his life to accommodate his father's situation with diabetes, he realizes that Kenzy has worked her way into not only his dad's heart, but also his heart. Kenzy tends to shy away from him and he knows that she is dealing with something personal. How does Maverick make Kenzy see that they could have a future together? How does he get her to break down her walls and give him a chance?
Take this inspiring journey with them as they discover true love! And they learn how to cope with everything that life throws at them while love and hard work prevail to give them more than they ever dreamed!
Let me start off my giving my one negative before I jump in to how seriously awesome this story was… It was super short. Now, this is my ONLY negative, and bear in mind it's because I am selfish and didn't want the story to end because I fell in love with the characters so much in such a short time.
Now, with that being said, there was not one thing about the actual story itself that I did not like. It has such incredibly strong characters that were just down to earth and easy to relate to. The writing was very well done, and the author did a great job in conveying the characters emotions so that you felt for them. Where it was not a bawl your eyes out sad book, there were a handful of times that I found my eyes tearing up. There were a couple scenes that had me giggle (for example… the first time Maverick ran into (literarily) Kenzy afar she moved back to her hometown), and one particular scene that got me all hot and bothered. I may or may not have soaked through a pair of my undies, and then messaged the author to tell her that there should be a disclaimer with this book warning you that you may ruin your undies LOL.
Kenzy decides to move back to her hometown after finally having enough of her boyfriend of five years being a total a**hat. As if his inability to keep it in his pants wasn't bad enough, he also knocked up two of her co-workers! Once home, she begins to realize everything she thought she had with her ex had been a lie, and you see her grow and move on. Despite the terrible things she went through, she is still one of the sweetest and most caring women.
A night out with her best friend leads Kenzy into the arms of Maverick "Tapper"… her old high school crush. With a reputation of being a bit of a cocky womanizer, he's the exact opposite of what Kenzy should be drawn to. After their encounter on the dance floor, she steers clear of Maverick, knowing he is nothing but trouble and she is not about to be another name on his long list of conquests.
One day while at work at the hospital, Kenzy meets her new patient Richard who just had his leg amputated due to diabetes, who ends up being none other than Mavericks father! As Kenzy begins to form a bond with Richard, her and Maverick also begin to form one. The way she cares for Maverick's father beyond her work duties is just heartwarming. Through all his horrible struggles Kenzy is there by his side to help him get through it.
This story was touching, heartbreaking, heartwarming and just so "real". You can tell that the story is something the author holds close to her heart, and she really poured herself into it.
I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! I can only hope that we will down the line get more Kenzy and Maverick because their story is one of the sweetest yet.
