I was pretty excited to find out that Beau and Zane were getting their own book because the glimpse of their story that we saw in Hard Wired had my curiosity well and truly piqued.
Beau is the wholesome, good guy and Zane is his smart-mouthed, promiscuous rival YouTuber. I have to say, Zane stole the show for me. I'm such a sucker for cocky, bossy guys and guys with long hair, and Zane ticked all of these boxes for me. He was witty, confident and sexy as sin. The pair had fantastic chemistry together, as the pairs in this series always do, both inside and outside the bedroom.
As always in anything written by Megan and Santino, the quality of the sex was off the charts. You want hot and steamy? Well this book has it it bucketloads. We have spanking, light bondage, blindfolding, role play…when Beau and Zane came together it was an explosion of erotic fireworks. They had some crazy good banter that had me literally laughing out loud for most of the book, but it wasn't all wit and sex, the book also deals with some serious issues like blackmail and slut shaming. It also cleverly approaches the issue of building a career from an online hobby like YouTubing. There are so many people who are getting involved in vlogging, Twitch, YouTube and more, and this series explores so many options that people have to really build a career out of the hobbies that they love. I think it's really inspirational.
We got to catch a few glimpses of Jessie and Ian from Hard Wired as well as meet more of the online community that the author's have created that I love so much. As someone who spends most of their time online (and who met their partner online gaming) this series hits so close to home for me and its one of the reasons I love it so much.
I'm always quick to recommend anything by Megan Erickson or Santino Hassell – especially this co-written series, because seriously their writing is amazing. If M/M is your thing and you haven't read any of these books yet then you're missing out on an insanely good series.
Really hoping there will be more in this series (maybe Debonair and Miguel will be next??) because I need more Cyberlove in my life <3
I loved both characters, the snark was entertaining and you know what they say about hate being akin to love, it's glaringly obvious here.
These two writers gel together so well. I'm a fan of both their works, but together they're amazing. The story wasn't just about the sex though, it was well written and covered some relevant issues about internet usage and its effects.
I hope this isn't the last in the series. This, in my opinion, is one of the best series out there. There were a few new characters introduced, and I really hope that they're going to get their happy endings sometime in the future. Can be read as a standalone, but I'd recommend reading the previous 3 in the series, as there is some overlap.
A supernova happens where there is a change in the core, or center, of a star. A change can occur in two different ways, with both resulting in a supernova.
The first type of supernova happens in binary star systems. Binary stars are two stars that orbit the same point. One of the stars, a carbon-oxygen white dwarf, steals matter from its companion star. Eventually, the white dwarf accumulates too much matter. Having too much matter causes the star to explode, resulting in a supernova.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens in this book. Two stars come together, they collide and they explode. Oh boy do they explode.
Beau Starr, who we met in Hard Wired, about his cousin Jessie Garvy's romance with fellow Twitch mod Ian, (aka Cerise/Cherry), is an Internet sensation. He's wholesome, inspirational, clean cut, all above board and hiding a secret not only about what he likes to do in the bedroom but also about his life before YouTube.
But Zane Brody, he doesn't care a bit, TrashyZane has no qualms at all about letting his YouTube audience know he likes it deep and dirty.
Zane: This power bottom has zero shame about how much I love being manhandled. How much I love having all this hair pulled.
And they hate each other. This is not just frenemies, this is full on enemies to lovers handled with consummate skill.
Beau hates Zane's hair. "His hair smelled like grapefruit. I used to eat grapefruit for breakfast with a bit of sugar sprinkled on top, but now grapefruit were dead to me. I planned to spit on the next grapefruit I saw with vigor."
Zane thinks Beau's a jerk“I always knew you were a phony. And now I know you’re a hypocrite and a liar too. All because you’re too busy repressing your own sexuality just to keep up a front.”
But they're inexplicably drawn to each other and gradually the relationship shifts. This book is the hottest and dirtiest (in the absolute best possible way) of the four Cyberlove romances and it came this >< close to taking over from Fast Connection as my absolute favourite.
There's lots of work goes into making their relationship organic, there's some serious hurting and a public groveling which is a joy to read.
If you've never read this series don't start with this one, go back and get Strong Signal and discover why there is something truly delicious about online relationships, gaming and the communities which build up around them.
Oh and the cover - yeah I'm drooling (a lot).
#ARC kindly provided by the authors in return for an honest and unbiased review. I also own a copy of this book purchased with my own money.
At times this book felt less heavy than the previous books but then you get hit with the characters being super self diminishing and it was so relatable. The pair definitely have more ups and downs than the others which I think was really good because otherwise I think Beau could've been a bit boring but bringing Zane into his life made him fun to read.
