Review

On ""North by Northanger"" "An utter delight . . . every aspect is pitch-perfect."--"Romantic Times BOOKreviews "(Top Pick)"Bebris captures Austen's style and the Regency period perfectly, drawing her characters with a sure hand. Her plot is poignant and gentle and will appeal to readers who prefer their mysteries without murder or violence."--"Library Journal" (starred review)On ""Suspense & Sensibility: """Jane Austen fans who regret the author wrote only six full length novels have reason to rejoice: Bebris' second Mr. and Mrs. Darcy mystery is even better than her strong debut...The author smoothly combines characters from"" Pride & Prejudice"" and ""Sense & Sensibility"" while remaining true to Austen's originals."--""Publishers Weekly"""No evil is a match for the witty and happily married Darcys."--""Kirkus Reviews"" On ""Pride & Prescience"" "Thoroughly 'light and bright and sparkling, ' in the best Austen tradition with a dollop of murder and mayhem to leaven the whole. A delight."--Stephanie Barron, author of the ""Jane Austen Mystery Series""

this book is one in a series of regency style mystery stories. It is particularly enjoyable if you are a janeite, like myself, as it reflects her style of writing. This novel follows the pursuits of Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy, now in possesion of a daughter, as they travel to Mansfield Park to confront the overbearing Lady Catherine de Bourgh as she struggles to contend with her daughters elopement, much to her horror. The Darcys role? To try to avert a scandal whilst contending with a possible murder...cant say any more as it would give this delightful plot away.. highly reccommended!

"More accurately, Lady Catherine conversed. Anne listened silently, her attention straying to other parts of the busy room as her mother soliloquied unchecked. Wandering concentration, however, was endemic to participants in Lady Catherine's conversations. It was how one survived them." Chapter 2

Austenesque author Carrie Bebris ventures into her fourth excursion in the Mr. and Mrs. Darcy mysteries series with the recently released, THE MATTERS AT MANSFIELD: OR THE CRAWFORD AFFAIR, continuing the story of Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy after their marriage in Jane Austen's novel PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Once again we join the famous couple as they investigate crime and murder among the gentry of Regency England involving many familiar characters from Jane Austen's novels.

It has been two summers since the Darcy's marriage in 1803 and the story opens at Riverton Hall in Buckinghamshire, the ancestral home of Mr. Darcy's mother Anne Fitzwilliam. The present Earl is giving a ball in honor of his new fiancé and the Darcy's are house guests along with other family members; sister Georgiana Darcy, cousins Colonel Fitzwilliam and Anne de Bourgh, and her mother the officious and overbearing Lady Catherine de Bourgh still giving unsolicited advice and talking a blue streak.

Lady Catherine's hen pecked and sickly daughter Anne is now 28 years old and being micro-managed by her mother to within an inch of her life. Lady Catherine is determined to secure a prominent match for her daughter since the mate chosen for her since birth, Fitzwilliam Darcy, defied her wishes and married that `gentleman's daughter', Elizabeth Bennet. Unbeknownst to Anne, her mother brokers a marriage to the son of a family friend and neighbor Lord Sennex, of Hawthorn Manor.

sceptical when my friend suggested this --do not mess with the saintly Jane -- but actually pretty good and enjoyed it immensely--one problem was trying to keep out the voice of P.D.James and her characters in 'death at pemberley' (excellent) . Want to read the others and have put on my wish list for xmas--hoping my son will pick them!

A wonderful read her stories get better and better. Anne de'Bough runs away and marries Mr Crawford upon returning from Gretna they go to stay at a Inn near Mansfield park. Darcy, Elizabeth and the Colonel find them and send an express post to Lady C with the bad news that they have not been able to stop the wedding.

All manner of things then start to go wrong. Mariah's husband comes to the inn and demands to speak to Mr Crawford then Mariah comes and they have a huge row and she throws some earings he bought her in his face.

I will not go any further into the story so as to spoil it. All in all an excellent read Ms Bebris's stories get better and better.
