Blu-ray version is tinted green - beware.
on 5 April 2013
Obviously The Matrix is a fantastic film, but this version of the film is not strictly the original - it is the version from the DVD boxed set that was released a few years ago, and all scenes set within the Matrix have been tinted green, to keep in line with the production design of the sequels.
If you were familiar with the film (i.e, you watched it many times) before that boxed set was released, the tinting will stick out like a sore thumb. For me, the production design and photography of this film is one of its strongest aspects and it's a real shame to sabotage it in this way.
The cover art for this edition is the same as the initial VHS/DVD release, which led me to believe it might be an unmolested version of the film - no such luck.
In conclusion, great film tainted by unnecessary tweaking. I'll give it 2 stars, because it's not unwatchable.
Note to studios - if you want to make another £20 out of me, release the untinted version of this film.
