Price paid £23.99

Bought this for fairly obvious reasons; I need to occaisionally connect external electrical supplies that I would like to be weatherproof. Handy storage reel, good length and is safe for 13A (ie 3kW) when fully unwound.

The main reason for my review was to make sure that you buy the correct product for you needs. The instructions state that this product is for non-permanent installations. If you want to connect something up externally for an extended period then buy 'proper' outdoor connectors.

The reason for this is because the weather proof housing is basically a rain proof box. This box contains air and therefore water (in the form of vapour) can get in the housing. Over an extended period (ie several months), the nightly cycle of cooling and warming will cause this vapour to condense on the inside surfaces of the box. Eventually these tiny amounts of water will build up inside the casing and cause a short circuit. You may get away with this in spring/summer, but not autumn/winter.

Basically:
- Buy this if you need a temporary solution for connecting electrical items such as pond pumps, mowers, garden lights etc.
- Do not buy this if you are planning on leaving it outside for weeks/months.

I have three of these box-cable combinations daisy-chained around my garden to power low voltage lighting and a water feature. Although they are intended for "temporary" installations I have mine mounted 60 cm off the ground on garden fencing and shielded by hedging and other plants. Their colour also blends into the surrounding shrubbery and so far I have found them to be completely waterproof even during the heaviest rain. Highly recommended.

Great for outdoors, though I would recommend that it be given added shelter from the elements ( bad weather conditions ). I have affixed mine to wall ( with screws and wall plugs - not provided ) and added a small mini style wooden porch to cover it. The box is weatherproof ( not waterproof ). It can be locked by using a small padlock and key (not provided). The extension lead supplied has a 10 metre ( 12ft 3in ) cable. The 4 socket extension which fits into the box can be affixed to the inside of the box with 'VELCRO' ( supplied ). The 4 way extension does NOT have independent switches to enable any of the four sockets to be isolated and switched either 'ON' or 'OFF '. If the four sockets each had a 'ON / OFF ' switch, the I would give it a 5 star ***** rating. As for the price - just a little over the top in my opinion.

I've had a Masterplug Weatherproof Box, for some years, and been very pleased with it, using it for what it is designed for. Considering a 4 Socket 10m Extension Lead, is included, this is reasonably priced. I'm going to modify this one, by cutting an elliptical hole, in the base, and then secure it to the wall, over a Hozelock 4 Way Connector manifold, to prevent it freezing during the winter. The internal dimensions of this box are perfect for this application. The lid will be retained to give access, and hopefully, good frost protection.

Secure, fast delivery.

I purchased this for the garden so I could plug two outside waterproof garden lights in.
I read reviews and people said if you were using it outside then you should buy an RCD plug adapter. I wasn't sure what one of these were but I purchased a Masterplug RCD adapter plug from on here.
I plugged the RCD into my inside plug, then put this extension lead plug into it.
It helps protect you and your home incase of any water damage, breakages or electric shocks from what you have plugged in outside.

I've only used it a handful of times at the moment with the outside Lights, and it works great.

Long enough lead with more to spare if needed.

Cheapest price around. I even looked on Argos etc.

Definitely recommend!

This is a very good and well priced external extension lead.

The covered socket end of it is well designed and completely clips around the plug you put in it and the adjoining cable. That may sound quite a strange thing to say. However, in my experience, you'll often find that these types of sealed clamp covers won't clasp around a thick cable. This one does.

The plastic handle that the cable wraps around has two 3 pin plug cut-outs in the centre of it, so the plug end of the lead can be fixed neatly in place (and it is a good firm fit) and then you wrap the cable around the holder. There are also two small clips beside the handle on the top. This allows you to clip the end of the wound cable in place so it isn't hanging down.

The plug that goes into the wall is a good quality one and the extension cable thickness is fit enough for purpose.

I've often bought products like this and found them disappointing in one way or another. This isn't one of them.
